    DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    DEFINITION: This position assists in the operations of the City Warehouse.

    REPORTS TO: The Warehouse Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • Orders and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
    • Operates the inventory software program to produce inventory reports, to make stock inquiries and to place inventory reorders.
    • Inspects City Warehouse fire extinguishers and warehouse facility.
    • Operates a forklift to load and unload trucks.
    • Addresses concerns related to errors in quality, quantity of shipments or to damaged goods.
    • Contacts vendors as needed to stay informed on inventory deliveries based on quoted deliver schedules.
    • Stocks inventory shipments and issues inventory items to City personnel.
    • Operates a motorized sweeper to maintain warehouse cleanliness and a safe working environment.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    • Coordinates with other City employees to remain informed of inventory equipment and supply needs.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent required and two (2) years of related experience in municipal government procurement/warehouse operations.
    • Valid, North Carolina driver’s license or ability to obtain upon hire.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of inventory management.
    • Skill in oral and written communication.
    • Skill in establishing cooperative and productive working relationships.
    • Skill in interpersonal relations.
    • Skill in setting priorities for competing projects.
    • Skill in performing mathematical calculations.
    • Knowledge of the safe operation of a City vehicle, a forklift, a motorized sweeper, and a freight elevator.
    • Skill in operating computers and other standard office equipment.
    • Skill in preparing clear and accurate reports.
    • Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.


    SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
    The Warehouse Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.


    GUIDELINES:
    Guidelines include division policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.


    COMPLEXITY:
    The work consists of related duties in support of warehouse operations. The variety of items to be inventoried contributes to the complexity of the position.


    SCOPE AND EFFECT:
    The purpose of this position is to assist in the operation of the City Warehouse. Success in this position provides the equipment and resources needed for City operations, and does so in compliance with relevant laws and City policies.


    PERSONAL CONTACTS:
    Contacts are typically with other City personnel, vendors, and members of the general public.


    PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
    Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, standing or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse, or outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
