GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
You will work under the supervision of a curatorial team in Modern and Contemporary and Photography, to conduct and coordinate research, and undertake administrative and organization tasks for an upcoming exhibition on Man Ray opening at The Met in summer 2025.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Conduct in-depth library and archival research to support checklist; research provenance and exhibition histories of works on checklist; maintain research database; and help to coordinate research for the project team
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Assist with grant opportunities or other fund-raising opportunities, as needed, as well as applications for Immunity from Seizure and Indemnification
  • Assist in lender correspondence and loan negotiations; process exhibition agreements, and other forms, especially formal loan letters to private and public collections; coordinate with and assist Registration in these matters
  • Work with curators and Editorial/Publications department to assist with all aspects of the exhibition catalogue production, including author identification, design process, copy editing, images, and captions; research images and archival photographs and assist in securing reproduction rights and correct credits/captioning; support curators in development and implement of exhibition design; and work with team on all aspects of the exhibition installation
  • Maintain working checklist in TMS and maintain object files
  • Assist with the composition of interpretive materials, including gallery labels, images/captions, digital content, or other assets, and securing rights; help to implement programming for the exhibition; maintain image library for PPTs
Education And Experience
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office/Teams, Adobe Acrobat Pro/Photoshop
  • Previous art-historical research experience in an academic or museum setting preferred, especially early 20th century
  • French language facility
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, proven ability to multitask and to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Masters in Art History, with specific expertise in early 20th-century art
Compensation Range
  • Pay Range: $30/hour
  • The advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role. The advertised pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage for any specific employee. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.
Location Requirements
At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
