Posting Summary


Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Assistant -Per Diem for the Department of Psychiatry within Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.


Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant will assist with the implementation of research projects in addictions and mental health, with a focus on recruiting, consenting and interviewing research subjects. Subjects will include but are not limited to, people experiencing homelessness who reside in shelters or in street locations. Subjects may also include people with opioid use disorders and prisoners re-entering the community. This is a temporary, per-diem position with the expectation of 20-40 hours of work per week. The position is expected to extend for approximately 6-8 months with the potential for longer employment.


Among the key duties of this position are the following:


  • Recruit and enroll participants in research studies.
  • Track and schedule research participant appointments.
  • Travel as needed to homeless shelters, encampments, various treatment programs and other social service sites serving homeless individuals and other potential research subjects in NJ.
  • Perform various research procedures relative to the ongoing research protocols.
  • Attend project-specific training and research project meetings.
  • Accurately and comprehensively document all contact with participants.
  • Assist with database management; literature searches; communication with the IRB office.
  • Conduct participant interviews and other data collection.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science (i.e., Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, or other related field) OR prior community-based experience working with homeless or other disadvantaged populations OR prior lived experience with homelessness, substance use or mental health.
  • Individuals having prior experience with the New Jersey and/or national Point-In-Time Surveys of homeless populations are encouraged to apply.


Certifications/Licenses
  • Must have valid driver’s license and car.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Excel and Qualtrics.
