Research & Development Manager

Santa Monica, CA



We are Careismatic Brands Inc., the global leader in medical apparel, footwear, and accessories. We have an outstanding opportunity for a Research & Development Manager to research, discover, and develop innovative fabric, finishes, and trims for brands and seasonal launch assortments for Medical apparel and accessories manufacturers/ wholesale.


This is a full-time hybrid role.


Salary Range: $85,000.00-$95,000.00

What Your Day Looks Like

  • Collaborate and Develop fabrications, finishes and trims with current and new suppliers.
  • Order all sample yardage and trims for internal sample development.
  • Research new Fabric, Finish and Trim innovations that can be applied to the Medical apparel market assortment.
  • Maintain fabric/ trim development digital/physical libraries and create new fabric swatch headers and digital boards for sales meetings.
  • Communicate with Colorist to ensure new fabrics are lab dipped in core and fashon colors.
  • Lead bi-weekly fabric/trim development status meetings with Production, Raw Materials, Design and Merchandising Teams.
  • Partner with PD to create fabric and trim codes for PLM systems.
  • Enter Fabric/Trim data in PLM system and communicate development feedback to supply chain via internal emails.
  • Travel and attend relevant trade shows and seminars.
  • Provide fabric specification information to Customer Service/Copywriter for seasonal newness.
  • Lead, initiate, and partner with Quality Assurance to ensure all fabrics and trims meet quality protocols.
  • Identify and present innovations/trends in a PPT. format that may be applied to medical apparel, twice yearly to inform executive team and design teams.
  • Identify and Track new fabric and trim developments and communicate status to cross-functional team members.


What We’re Looking For

  • 3-7+ years of experience in the apparel industry.
  • Experience with PLM systems.
  • BA or BS college-related degree.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Detail proficiency and a team-oriented person with the ability to lead a team.
  • Knowledge of garment construction is a plus.
  • Highly organized, with expert knowledge of fabric construction, yarns, and content.
  • Knowledge of trim components and substrates.
