Position Summary
St. Anthony Catholic High School a private college preparatory Catholic co-ed high school of approximately 400 students and a division of the University of the Incarnate Word is seeking a Religion Teacher. The Religion Teacher is member of the Ministry team and is asked to assist in ministry programs and events and will support the Mission of the school and the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. This position will report to the Principal and Vice-Principal of St. Anthony. Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must be a practicing Catholic. Due to the religious nature of this position, incumbent must be a practicing member of the Catholic faith.

Description of Job Duties
  • The Religion Teacher will plan and execute students retreats and will assist with faculty retreats.
  • The Religion Teacher has weekly Chapel duties that require implementation of prayers services and coordination of Chapel presentations.
  • The Religion Teacher serves as advisor to 15-20 students, attends after school faculty meetings, evening parent meetings, Community Liturgies, and Open Houses as requested.

  • Full knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church, subjects taught, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
  • Knowledge of child/adolescent development, learning, and behavior.
  • Skills in handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Skills in organizing and relating information in an understandable format.
  • Skills in pacing and differentiating instruction.
  • Skills in critical thinking and planning. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Required Education
  • The Archdiocese of San Antonio requires non-certified teachers to have 12 hours of education. Faculty hired without the 12 hours are place on a deficiency plan and must obtain the 12 hours within two (2) years.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology or 18 credit hours in Theology/Religious Studies.
  • Texas teacher certification or a projected plan for obtaining certification within four (4) years is required.

Required Work Experience
Due to the religious nature of this position, incumbent must be a practicing member of the Catholic faith.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience teaching Religion preferred, but not required.

Typical Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm with occasional extended hours/weekends to meet departmental needs and/or needs of the learning community.
