University Prep is seeking a talented, engaging, and compassionate Middle School Science Teacher. Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, teaches four sections of Middle School Science. Develops interdisciplinary projects with other members of the Middle School core faculty. Serves on the Middle School curricular team and as a Middle School advisor.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies
- Teaches four sections of Middle School Science in an integrated curriculum that focuses on the study of science and skill development
- Serves as an advisor to 10-12 Middle School Students
- Participates on a grade-level curricular team
- Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Uses formative teaching and assessment methods
Required Education & Experience:
- 3+ years of successful teaching experience in a Middle School environment preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or a related field from a four-year college or university required
- Teaching certification preferred
- Master’s degree in Science or a related field preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Good understanding of the developmental needs of Middle School students
- Competence in the content area and pedagogy for Middle School
- Ability to hold students and oneself to high expectations
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity
- Ability to use formative assessments and strategies in the classroom
- Comfortable with operating Audio/Visual equipment
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Interest in being part of a community as a colleague and grade-level team member
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
- Experience being part of a curricular and co-curricular team preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A working understanding of Universal Design for Learning, University by Design, and Grading for Equity concepts
- Flexibility, maturity and a sense of humor
- Ability to prepare lessons to appeal to a variety of learning styles, needs and accommodations
- Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
- Ability to create an active learning environment that supports understanding, passion and creativity in students
- Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
- Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows or Mac environment using Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary is $57,643 - $104,801 based on education and years of experience.
