JOB TITLE: REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSE V-ASSISTANT MANAGER PATIENT CARE SERVICES

RECRUITMENT NO: KCH 23-143 (Full time, Permanent)

JOB LOCATION: KONA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL – Nursing Administration

SALARY AMOUNT: $9,519 PER MONTH (SR 23; BU:09)

JOB DUTIES: Patient Care Services is responsible for the management of the Nursing Supervisors, Nursing Float Pools, Sitter Float Pool, Staffing Office, MA Float Pool and oversight of patient care inpatient, behavioral health and emergency department.

The Registered Professional Nurse V (Assistant Patient Care Services Manager) is responsible for assisting the RPN VII, Director of Patient Care Services, in coordinating and supervising staff; managing the daily operations of the float pools, staffing office, and sitters; and by fulfilling the technical and clinical functions, requirements, skills and competencies of the staff. Also serves as a resource in some clinical matters and performs other duties as assigned. May work on rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.

The Minimum Qualification Requirements Are: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

Education Requirement: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from a nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.

Experience: Nursing Experience: One and one-half (1 ½) years of professional nursing work experience. Must have at least one half (1/2) year of supervisory experience in which administrative, supervisory, teaching and nursing ability has been demonstrated.

Supervisory Experience: For Registered Professional Nurse V and above, must have demonstrated possession of supervisory aptitude and supervisory experience which include: (1) planning and directing the work of others; (2) assigning and reviewing their work; (3) advising them on difficult problem areas; (4) timing and scheduling their work; and (5) training and developing employees.

Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Worker is required at the time of appointment. ACLS and PALS must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.

Licensure: Possession of a current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.

Substitutions Allowed: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited school of nursing may be substituted for one year of experience.

DESIRED SKILLS: In addition to those skills and abilities possessed by a staff nurse, the employee should be able to initiate and maintain working relationships with members of the medical staff, administration, nursing, other departments and agencies affiliated with the hospital. In addition, the employee must exhibit skill in dealing with and developing policies and procedures. The employee must have experience or documented evidence of competence in the area of practice, administration, and/or leadership skills; knowledge of Joint Commission requirements, and those of other federal, state, or private regulatory/review organizations with which the hospital interacts. The employee must be able to communicate well with individuals at all levels; work as a team member; and demonstrate management, leadership, decision-making, interpersonal, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to plan and schedule the work of others and utilize good judgment and sound principals of management and supervision

STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee. Your letter requesting the Administrative Review must include 1. The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. The specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. Any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
