Job Title: Regional Director
Department: External Operations
Reports To: Executive Management
FLSA Status: Exempt
SUMMARY
Oversees activities of the Regional Office and assists home office management with managing regional employees. Provides leadership and establishes guidelines and objectives for the regional office. Assists home office management with managing the Agency plant in the region. Ensures that all objectives are met. Responsible for keeping regional office staff connected to home office and instilling home office culture into the regional branches.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicates corporate culture and philosophy to the regional staff and other entities.
- Monitors regional marketplace reaction to pricing and product introduction as well as regional results and reports back to appropriate managers and Executive Management.
- Develops and maintains positive Company/Agency relationships which include travel, visitation and attendance at various conventions and meetings. (May include overnight stays.)
- Provides feedback in the performance appraisals of regional office employees and provides ongoing coaching and mentoring, collaborating with related home office department managers.
- Contributes ideas and concepts and assists in the development of strategy for the regional operation.
- Oversees activity of all staff in the regional office to ensure goals are met and makes sure all activity conforms with overall company policy and procedures.
- Collaborates with Underwriting, Marketing, Claims and other Departments, as needed, in new product development.
- Participates with Commercial Lines and Personal Lines management to complete and deliver annual performance appraisals, and 6-month coaching sessions.
- Reviews industry publications and monitors pending legislation and regulations to determine impact of new developments on Company’s products and procedures as they affect the region.
- Fosters collaboration and cohesiveness between members of the Management Team.
- Encourages positive attitude within the regional branch through ongoing feedback.
- Analyzes, organizes, and evaluates regional office operations and procedures to ensure effective controls are in place and that regional office workflow objectives for service standards and efficiency are met.
- Collaborates with home office Management to oversee the regional office physical plant.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Researches, analyzes, and monitors financial technological and demographic factors so that market opportunities may be maximized.
- Organizes, plans, coordinates and attends monthly department meetings.
- Collaborates with home office governmental affairs coordinator and helps monitor regional legislative activity.
- Participates in the management of the Agency plant in the region including prospecting, appointing and terminating Agents. Acts as a liaison between Agency plant and home office management to ensure clear communication and resolve issues appropriately.
- Communicates with employees and other entities, as necessary, to obtain information and/or to explain the Company's philosophies and products.
- Coordinates, with the Information Systems Department, the delivery of the technological needs of the regional office.
- Communicates and networks with other industry personnel to gain knowledge of marketplace trends to aid in the development of new products and the refinement of existing products.
- Collaborates with regional marketing representative on agency issues.
- Coordinates action planning and execution for the regional office and participates in the development of the Company-wide annual budget and the 3-Year Business Plan.
- Consults on underwriting and claims’ files having complex and/or unique characteristics.
- Prepares various production reports to monitor regional results and for guidance to management.
- Participates and provides input on claims and underwriting file audits which are led by the related department manager in order to evaluate decision-making abilities and effectiveness and collaborates with department manager to resolve any issues.
- Reviews new industry development to assure the Company's compliance with statutory requirements.
- Responsible for development, perpetuation, and creation of leadership among the regional office staff to satisfy current and future needs of the organization.
- Participates in the interview process to fill vacant positions, in conjunction with related home office department manager
- Responds to complaints as they affect the region from agents, insureds, claimants, and the insurance department.
- Collaborates with Underwriting, Marketing, Claims and other Departments to create cross-department efficiencies and unity around workflow and project collaboration.
- Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies, as assigned by Home Office.
- Travels as required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the employee's position and to fulfill educational requirements. (Includes overnight stays.)
- Participates in determining regional pricing strategies of the Company's products based on market surveys and product development.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists home office Management with managing and mentoring regional employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting home office Management with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance appraisals; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and 10-12 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Office Productivity software such as Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Communications and all other business-related software used by the regional office.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
The Company may expect the employee to possess or to acquire, within a reasonable period of time as established by the Company, the Chartered Property/Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, sponsored by the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.
The Company may expect the employee to possess or to acquire, within a reasonable period of time as established by the Company, the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation, sponsored by the Insurance Institute of America (IIA).
The Company may expect the employee to take other courses deemed appropriate to the employee's job duties and responsibilities.
