Job Description
Responsible and accountable for the effective management and oversight for one of three evolving U.S. based distribution operation regions (as well as their satellite operations and transportation). In conjunction with Distribution Center Directors and the Vice President of North America Distribution, this position ensures optimal performance of DC operations and achievement of key performance and growth indicators. This position will operate with the utmost confidentiality and discretion in matters of significant business importance. This position will be located within the assigned region (and most likely assigned to domicile at a distribution center within the region).
Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for operational oversight and execution of strategic operational initiatives and daily tactical execution through achievement of operational performance, key reporting metrics and financial initiatives. This includes (but not limited to) personnel management, budget performance, delivery execution, customer satisfaction, route optimization, warehouse thru-put, safety, sanitation, and inventory management.
Provide direction and subject matter expertise to DC Directors and staff on distribution center performance. Analyze and oversee center metrics in relation to goals and assists in the development and communication of these performance initiatives, results, best practices and/or other corporate information.
Manage and oversee projects related to systems, capital expenditures, continuous improvement areas, and any other assigned projects per the VP of North American Distribution.
Complete and/or oversee daily, weekly, period and monthly reporting as required utilizing the correct systems and by the due dates established.
Direct the creation of a regional system for all store deliveries, DC’s, satellites, external facilities that will streamline zone operations and deliveries.
Develop a strong collaboration and shared responsibility with the VP of NA Distribution, other Regional Directors and DC Directors and is accountable for zone optimization, standardization, and operational excellence.
Have a working knowledge of information systems (WMS, TMS, Workday, etc) while providing input and support for new systems development and deployment.
Develop a strong collaboration with corporate transportation team, store operations, quality, and finance for required support as needed.
Review the rightsizing of the network based on restaurant locations, inbound freight, and outbound freight costs. Recommend low-cost solutions to the size and structure of the DC network.
Provide leadership to the DC Directors to achieve projected business targets and financial metrics.
Ensures compliance with all company and operating policies and procedures; assure fair and reasonable work environment and promote a high performing culture.
Act in a corporate liaison role between regional distribution centers and corporate initiatives. Facilitates communications between regions and corporate offices.
Provide a focus on strategic alignment of distribution center objectives to corporate objectives and initiatives.
Direct & approve all personnel actions within the region as within projected budget limits; ensures proper staffing levels as compliant with approved ratios; perform DCD and other management performance evaluations and review DCD evaluations for DC supervisory
Maintain an environment/culture that supports open communication and treats all employees with fairness, firmness, and consistency in the management of day-to-day business practices.
Protects the brand in all areas of supply chain and otherwise. Safety, Quality Assurance, Sanitation, Assurance of Supply, efficient operations that balance low cost and service are key enablers to this brand protection.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in business, Logistics or another relevant discipline. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Ten or more years’ experience within a multi-location warehouse and/or distribution environment (foodservice distribution strongly preferred), a solid command of business strategies and operational disciplines and experience establishing and implementing strategic initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to coach and develop a goal oriented, forward thinking, technological savvy staff.
Proactively participate and provide leadership in the development of directors and staff as well as operational strategic plans and programs. Promote an employment culture of best practice.
Evidence of financial acumen and sound business analysis and judgment.
Requires advanced communication skills to disseminate highly complex information to multiple audiences and must have the skills to deliver key messages to constituents at multiple levels and have the capability to reach agreement between conflicting parties.
Proven ability to build relationships, manage people and expect and develop collaboration from all levels and locations.
Prior experience with managing vendor relationships (contracts, financials, performance, etc.).
Understanding and/or previous use of Manhattan WMS and TMS systems is a plus. Ability to understand all aspects of WMS, i.e. InfoLink, Power Warehouse, Pick-to-Voice systems, etc. the complexity of warehouse operations and have the capability to collaborate with external corporate departments in support of business initiatives.
Working knowledge and demonstrated understanding of on-board computer systems such as Peoplenet, Cadec, Xatanet or any other on-board mobile collection device. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Safety Administration (FSMA), and Compliant Safety Accountability scores (CSA).
Demonstrated communication effectiveness, ability to educate and inform broad audiences, including senior staff with evidence of well-developed influencing skills
Working Conditions:
Ability to work non-traditional hours as needed.
Ability to travel (local, out of state and overnight) as required and adhere to the company Travel Policy Guidelines. Travel may exceed 50% of the time.
