Job Description

Position Summary

Under supervision of the Radiology Team Leader and other members of Radiology Leadership and following established procedures, performs a variety of technical radiological procedures using standard and / or specialized x-ray equipment in order to assist Providers in the diagnosis and treatment of patient’s illness and / or injury. Performs related tasks such.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs other tasks as required for the effective and efficient functioning of the Practice when directed to do so by supervisory and managerial personnel.
  • Assists Providers in the performance of specialized examinations per established procedures.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition at all times and opening technologist ensures that examination rooms are properly supplied with equipment and materials.
  • Rotates through ASC, as needed.
  • May assist in dispensing appropriate amount of oral contrast material as described in the department specific procedure protocols.
  • Ensures that images, examination requisitions and other related records are properly completed for proper patient identification, statistical, and billing purposes.
  • Uploading outside imaging into PACS system as needed.
  • Verifies RAD visit (encounter) & ordering provider is accurate on all exams
  • Prints Film/burns CD as requested by patients and / or Clinicians. Imports/Exports images to and from ORMC, as needed.
  • Calculates and selects proper technical factors such as voltage, current, exposure time and focal distances based on such information as patient's size, physical condition, and suspected pathology. Checks equipment and accessories to insure they are in proper operating condition.
  • Prepares and assists patients for radiographic procedures as requested by Providers and Clinicians.
  • Maintains and records daily calibrations in the Daily Operation Logs, including Monthly Calibrations
  • Properly verifies the patient’s identity by means of two forms of identification.
  • Documents and maintains an acceptable repeat rate.
  • Retrieves & reviews prior studies for comparison.
  • Assists in the orientation of new personnel.
  • Screens female patients 55 years old or younger for pregnancy. Checks for lab pregnancy results, if needed.
  • Documents required information to maintain our Radiographical QA program.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in duties, scheduling and/or traveling to meet patient and department needs.
  • Transfers, positions, and instructs patients regarding the procedure in order to obtain and affect the desired radiological diagnostic results as specified by the Physician. Utilizes immobilization and other devices for holding or positioning patients of all ages from Pediatric to Geriatric as necessary.
  • Operates x-ray equipment according to specific diagnostic procedure, and in conformance to established routines and techniques as approved by the Medical Director of the department.
  • Follows CRHC Radiation Safety ALARA concept and its relationship to work procedures and work conditions.
  • Attends all appropriate staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Verifies proper identification of the acquired images, checks all acceptable parameters prior to transmitting images to PACs for radiologist interpretation.
  • Provides protection to unaffected areas of the body from radiation exposure utilizing lead shields in accordance with prescribed ALARA safety standards
  • Checks work schedule in Shifthound on a regular basis and logs in and out of Ultipro consistently.

Qualifications

  • Completion of AMA approved program in Diagnostic Radiography.


  • Must possess a current New York State License in Diagnostic Radiography.


  • Must be able to maintain Continuing Education Credits.


  • Other Certifications as required.

Special Requirements:

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to position patients, carry cassette and process images as necessary.


  • Moving patients on / off stretchers, tables and wheelchairs.


  • Stand / sit for long periods.

  • Exposed to bodily fluids, hazardous chemicals, odors and communicable diseases.
