Arconic Aluminum Extrusion serves the global aerospace and automotive markets with the most specialized engineering, highest quality, and the greatest breadth and depth of forgings and extrusions. Our vertically integrated capabilities and deep materials science expertise in aluminum and titanium structural casting is taking the industry to new heights. AEX is a business unit of Arconic (NYSE: ARNC).

Arconic is seeking a Quality Metallurgist to join our Aluminum Extrusion (AEX) business unit in Lafayette, IN.

Profile: The primary purpose of this role is to develop, control, troubleshoot, and improve all processes related to metallurgical properties of the products produced at Arconic Forgings and Extrusions, Lafayette Operations.


Essential Functions: The Quality Metallurgist within AEX requires technical and interpersonal skills essential to teamwork. General duties for the Quality Metallurgist include but are not limited to:

  • Support production in metallurgy related daily activities.
  • Review revisions in quality documentation to make sure that all technical requirements are met.
  • Support and follow the quality system to prevent any defective pieces from leaving the facility and reaching the customer.
  • Prepare and submit concessions to the customer for review and disposition.
  • Monitor and adjust the production process using statistical process control through analysis of processing parameters and metallurgical testing results to ensure that all requirements, both internal and external, are met.
  • Perform various department and/or company projects, including planning, organizing data collection, and presentation of results.
  • Communicate regularly with internal employees and customers.
  • Disposition process violations in a timely manner.
  • Improve all processes within the manufacturing line to minimize quality events.
  • Determine root causes of deviations and implement effective corrective and preventative actions to minimize future disruption to manufacturing.
  • Refine the processing limits of existing alloy systems to continually increase manufacturing robustness.
  • Work actively on continuous improvement and cost reductions to achieve the company’s financial objectives.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Material Science from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 1 years of relevant experience.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of casting and melting process
  • Knowledge of aluminum alloys and properties
  • Experience in metals or aluminum industry
  • Quality Systems experience (ISO9001, AS9100, etc.)
