Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the coordination and preparation of sample submission packages.
- Assist Quality Assurance Manager for all site and customer needs.
- Conduct investigation of non-conformances and recommend corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
- Work with Manufacturing to solve in-house quality concerns and review of nonconforming product.
- Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are followed and are a priority.
- Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and “where applicable” ResponsibleSteel
- Support plant metallurgist to support prompt disposition of production coils to ensure customer satisfaction for support of scheduling and customer lead times.
- Conduct Product Audits.

- Requirements are followed.
- Assist with sample preparation and analysis for SEM, ternary and grain structure analysis.
- Support customer quality concerns.
- Verify laboratory equipment in accordance with On-site Laboratory Scope and controls and support laboratory functions as needed.
- Support all Monitoring and Measuring Devices requirements and needs.
- Support all operational units to ensure product defects are identified and rated quickly and efficiently; Interface with Sales and production to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge and experience in Steel CSP Mills - Mini Mills
- Certified Quality Engineer preferred
- Knowledge of Quality System requirements
- 5 years’ experience in Quality Assurance preferred
- Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent is a plus
- Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization
- Knowledge of SPC techniques
- Understanding of product defects and process controls
Environment is typical for a steel mill production area, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and dusty/greasy areas. Physically demanding work will be required in the production environment and the ability to routinely climb, lift and move heavy objects during shift may be required. Typical work hours are 12 hour shifts, which rotate days and nights. This results in working some weekends/holidays and overtime.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not supervise others.
