Position Summary:
The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily activities of the QA and calibration technician staff to ensure task completion in conformance with regulations and standards. This includes material testing, laboratory testing, environmental testing, sterilization release, and calibrations. They are responsible for ensuring that articles received for and produced by the manufacturing department conform to established specifications. While operating under the Quality Manager, they partner with key stakeholders to facilitate daily throughput.
Essential / Key Job Responsibilities (including supervisory and/or fiscal):
- Maintain tracking and trending of data for department.
- Participate in Quality System and Safety audits as required. Lead efforts to implement corrective actions and recommendations for department.
- Performs supervisory responsibilities, including but not limited to, performance reviews, recommending salaries and promotions, training, interviewing, hiring and disciplinary actions
- Follow & understand the corporate safety standard, local facility procedures and safety policies.
- Key stakeholder in Raw Material Specification and component qualification/maintenance.
- Applies expertise to improve effectiveness and provide technical guidance to associates.
- Identifies development needs and potentials of employees and provides or recommends project assignments and training to increase expertise to meet current or future division needs.
- Develop processes and procedures to implement and assist achieving functional strategies.
- Responsible for attainment of departmental goals in support of overall plant objectives.
- Supports the development and maintenance of procedures, processes, and objectives that drive high standards of quality, reliability, and safety.
- Ensures compliance to Quality specifications, standards, and current good manufacturing practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Utilize experience, knowledge, and skills to systematically solve problems.
- Coordinate the efforts of the staff functions with those of other departments in Carol Stream.
- Key input into process for change control.

- Lead continuous improvements projects for department.
- Responsible for the implementation of all local, segment, business unit and corporate policies.
- Manages and accountable for technicians performing material testing/inspections, calibrations, preventive maintenance, and environmental monitoring.
- Partner with Quality Engineering on nonconformance and unscheduled maintenance reports.
- Provide a positive workplace that fosters confidence, loyalty, trust, involvement, & development.

- Ability to effectively manage time and handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Ability to interpret Regulations, Corporate, Division, Facility and Department Procedures.
- Strong interpersonal skills required in the areas of verbal and written communications, presentation skills, consensus building, customer focus, professionalism, coaching, influencing, and team building.
- Ability to identify opportunities for quality and cost improvements.
- Proven understanding and application of leadership and managerial practices that support BD values.
- Ability to translate quality requirements into product specifications.
- Ability to participate and provide leadership on teams and maintain positive work environment with those teams. Understand team functions and leadership techniques.
- Ability to systemically solve problems.
- Understands basic applied statistics.
- Ability to understand Division and Facility quality and safety systems and be able to implement systemic changes to enhance product quality and improve associate safety and efficiency.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with PFMEA process
- Proficiency in Quality System auditing.
- Extensive knowledge of medical device regulation, industry, or international standards.
- Proficiency in JDE or comparable ERP systems
- American Society of Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Auditor, Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Six Sigma Green Belt or Certified Quality Manager
- Experience with terminal sterilization techniques
- Familiarity with Inspection techniques, sampling techniques, and AQL
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or comparable relevant experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel
- Working knowledge of good manufacturing and laboratory practices
- 2+ years of direct supervisory/management experience
- 8+ years’ experience in regulated (i.e. FDA/ISO 13485/9001, 21CFR Part 820, etc.) manufacturing environment
Physical Demands:
- Physical ability to lift 25 lbs. from the floor to waist-level.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use sight, and use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, controls, and office equipment.
- The employee frequently is required to verbally communicate with other associates.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be in an open cubicle environment. Candidate must be able to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
