OFFICE LOCATION: Hybrid in any of our NYC, NY, NJ or CT offices.
The primary responsibilities will include reviewing financial statements and conducting Engagement Quality Reviews (EQR) of workpapers to ensure compliance with professional and regulatory standards, as well as firm policies and procedures. Collaborate with individuals at all levels of the firm and occasionally with clients, and should have the ability to manage multiple projects.
Essential Duties:
- Assist in developing and maintaining the firm's accounting and auditing professional practice policies, standards, library, and templates.
- Mentor staff in areas requiring quality-related improvement and contribute to their professional development.
- Perform pre-issuance EQR and post-issuance reviews of attest work papers, and communicate the results to Quality Assurance Department Leadership and engagement personnel.
- Consistently apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) in complex situations, and write technical consultation memoranda on these standards/issues.
- Serve as a technical resource to partners, managers, and staff.
- Participate in the firm's triennial peer and PCAOB review inspections, as well as other regulatory inspections that may arise.
- Engage in due diligence projects to assess the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of existing engagements and/or potential firm merger candidates.
- Aid in monitoring compliance with the firm's quality control system.
- Assist in the implementation of new software, methodologies, and audit tools.
- Actively participate in engagement team planning and team discussion meetings when deemed appropriate by Quality Assurance Department leadership.
- Identify areas for improvement and develop practice aids, tools, and methodologies to drive change.
- Conduct pre-issuance technical reviews of financial statements and communicate directly with engagement teams.
- Contribute to the development and presentation of live and/or webcast firm continuing professional education program materials.
- Author thought leadership articles on new/emerging GAAP, GAAS, GAGAS, and Uniform Grant Guidance matters.
- Stay updated on technical accounting and auditing knowledge and skills by studying trends and developments in quality management, engaging in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
- Assist with the implementation of new accounting and audit standards.
Qualifications:
- Be skilled in presenting to large groups, both in person and virtually.
- Possess an active CPA license.
- Demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the not-for-profit, charter school, employee benefit plan (ERISA and non-ERISA), and affordable housing industries, with a background in single audit.
- Exhibit the ability to work effectively in a remote work environment.
- Hold a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Accounting from an accredited college/university.
- Possess extensive knowledge and experience in U.S. GAAP, GAAS, GAGAS, Uniform Grant Guidance, and HUD requirements.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.
- Have excellent communication and computer skills, including a strong knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
- Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within the Quality Assurance Department and with client service teams.
- Be proficient in researching complex accounting and auditing issues using Checkpoint and Accounting Research Manager research product suites.
- Exhibit creative and thoughtful problem-solving skills.
- Be proficient in working in a paperless environment.
- Have at least 6 years of prior experience in public accounting (quality control experience is a plus).
