Summary Description:

• Under the direction of the Site QA Manager, the Quality Control Lab Tech is responsible for maintaining the programs and functions for the Lortscher Animal Nutrition Inc. and Lortscher Employment Inc. in accordance with established Federal, State, and Local guidelines and company policies. The Quality Control Lab Technician is responsible for performing testing and release of all incoming materials, in-process samples and finished products. The Lab Tech maintains the lab equipment in good working condition.

Major Responsibilities & Duties:

o Oversee ingredient quality and final product quality

o Operate the mill lab during scheduled shift

o Provide accurate data for all quality audits

o Oversee all lab testing procedures

o Follow, implement, and oversee Good Manufacturing Policies for the Lab.

o Responsibility to identify and communicate food safety and/or product integrity issues to appropriate personnel.

o Provide documentation pertaining to quality assurance, food safety and nutrient analysis.

o Troubleshoot and advise on non-conforming ingredient and product issues.

o Maintain the Laboratory Standard Operating Procedure Manual

o Provide customers with Certificate of Analysis documentation

o Report customer complaints

o Repair lab equipment as needed

o Document food safety, quality assurance, and maintenance issues

o Knowledge of loading and unloading trucks including weighing and sampling ingredients

o Become knowledgeable in Food Plant HACCP and Food Safety programs

o Assist with Regulatory Inspections

o Perform tests for mycotoxins in grains using quantitative methods

o Test meat meal products and food oils for rancidity

o Perform sieve tests

o Monitor ingredient and product specification sheets

o Become knowledgeable in NIR, LECO, SAF-Test equipment

o Assist as needed with feed mill production

o Complete other duties as assigned by Site QA Manager

o Be available to help in all divisions when asked upon by your department manager

o Regular, predictable attendance is required and is an essential function of the position.

Requirements of the Job:

o Prefer a BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food or Animal Science or prior experience in Quality Control in a food or feed related industry is a plus, but not required.

o Attention to detail is essential

o Good computer skills including literacy with Excel and Word
