We are seeking a Publicity Assistant to support two senior members of the department, provide general administrative support, and assist with the creation of publicity campaigns for hardcover and trade paperback titles. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a wide variety of distinguished authors alongside a supportive team. We are focused on looking for creative, fresh, and diverse voices who care about books.


The position of publicity assistant at Penguin Press is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities, which include but are not limited to mailings, media clippings, maintaining office supplies, and escorting authors to events and media. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).

The Role:


  • Maintaining media clips, press contacts, and detailed logs of publicity projects in an internal database system
  • Coordinating travel and logistics for major author tours and creating detailed tour schedules for campaigns
  • Communicating internally between the Marketing, Editorial, and Production departments
  • Pitching a broad spectrum of media for authors and their books
  • Drafting press materials, including press releases, pitch and galley letters, and quote sheets
  • Accompanying authors at events and national media, virtually or in person, depending on the state of current affairs
  • Liaising with organizations and bookstores to arrange author events
  • Responding to calls and e-mails from media, authors, and booksellers
  • Providing general administrative support, including book mailings, processing invoices, billings, and expense reports


The Essentials:


  • Strong interest in literary fiction and serious nonfiction
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Desire to work in publicity and publishing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong follow-up skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Quick at picking up different computer systems and databases
  • Excellent organizational skills and superb attention to detail


The salary for this position is $48,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
