JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
PUBLIC RELATIONS REPRESENTATIVE III - EXCLUDED
DEPARTMENT OF LAW
Administration Division
Number of Vacancies: 1
Starting Salary: $58,116.00
Under general supervision, participates in and oversees the development of communication and public information materials.
Essential Duties
  • Maintains and updates log for all FOIA requests.
  • Redacts exempt material under the FOIA and prepares and releases responsive records within the appropriate timeframe.
  • Prepares the Law Department's response to any request for review filed by FOIA requesters with the Illinois Attorney General Public Access Counselor.
  • Learns Law Department case management software and other information management systems to respond to FOIA requests.
  • Assists the Director of Public Affairs with drafting social media content, press releases and responses to media inquiries.
  • Responds to FOIA requests for public records filed by citizens, members of the media, and outside entities in a timely manner.
  • Gathers records sought through FOIA requests by communicating with relevant attorneys and staff within the Law Department.
Additional Duties May Be Required For This Position.
LOCATION: Law Department – 121 North LaSalle St, Room 600
DAYS: Monday through Friday
HOURS: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English or a directly related field, plus three years of experience in the preparation and dissemination of public information; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
NOTE : You must provide your transcripts or diploma at time of processing, if applicable.
Preference Will Be Given To Candidates Possessing The Following
  • Previous experience responding to media requests and press inquiries
  • Previous experience with FOIA productions
  • Proficiency with information management systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Selection Requirements
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
