Role

The Public Health Analyst supports USAID’s Bureau for Global Health in Health Analysis and the development of global health policies.

Responsibilities

Analysts perform various analytical duties associated with Knowledge Management Services (KMS) II Project. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting USAID’s Element teams related to Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition, HIV/AIDS, Family Planning/Reproductive Health, Avian Influenza, Malaria, Tuberculosis, and Other Public Health Threats;
  • Working cooperatively with colleagues to effectively disseminate analytical findings and provide technical assistance to key users.
  • Presentation of results in an easily understandable manner;
  • Supporting information-gathering efforts by gathering and organizing various quantitative and qualitative information obtained via surveys and other feedback mechanisms;
  • Facilitating key collection and housing of data/indicators across technical areas that serve to demonstrate the outcome of the USAID’s impact on health programs and on specific changes over time;
  • Use multiple databases to undertake literature reviews (systematic and otherwise) to identify the best available evidence for which to make programming decisions; manage EndNote libraries;
  • Conducting analyses using applications such as Excel and STATA;
  • Working closely with KMS II team members and USAID staff in the Global Health Bureau and Regional Bureaus as well as other cooperating agencies and international community. Projects include report production, presentation preparation, secondary data analysis, and planning and budgeting documentation; and
  • Establishing and enforcing data quality standards by validating and cross-referencing data and helping to resolve data inconsistencies;

Key Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently and to manage various projects on a daily basis with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated skill in applying statistical methods to analyze large data sets using Excel and STATA;
  • Background knowledge of USAID structure, publications, policies and procedures is beneficial;
  • Experience working in the field of international public health, health policy, epidemiology, health economics or similar discipline, with demonstrated experience in any of these technical areas;
  • Demonstrated skill in undertaking systematic literature reviews using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and EconLit;
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with other colleagues;
  • Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills;
  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Social Science or a related field, and three years of experience;
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to gather data from secondary sources, research, and write documents for US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Congressional audiences as well as write short health related documents for electronic media;
  • Knowledge of Spanish or French is desirable; fluency in English is required.
  • Experience in data visualization programs and mapping software such as Tableau, ArcGIS, and others, is beneficial; and
