Job Summary:
Job Summary
Performs functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement, or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of the patient during routine and/or long term (ventricular assist and/or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) support under occasional guidance. Performs ancillary duties as assigned by Chief Perfusionist or attending surgeon.
Key Responsibilities
  • Completion of clinical documentation, EMR documentation and pre-bypass checklist per established protocol.
  • Intra-operative monitoring as necessary to interpret and/or manipulate perfusion indices within clearly defined protocol parameters including, but not limited to, prime components, thermal regulation, anticoagulation, patient hematocrit, blood flow rates, oxygen supply and consumption, vascular resistance and blood gas management as outlined in the AmSECT Perfusion Scope of Practice.
  • Functions in the clinical area according to established professional standards-of-care and within clinical scope of practice as outlined by American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, American Society of Extracorporeal Technology and American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

  • Maintains competence with routine and non-routine procedures and equipment.
  • Pre-operative review of patient medical records and set up, operation and maintenance of the cardiopulmonary bypass machine, extracorporeal circuitry & ancillary equipment required during cardiopulmonary bypass and standby procedures as ordered by attending surgeon(s).
Technical Capabilities
  • Medical Terminology & Documentation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate medical terminology and documentation in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
  • Procedures Knowledge (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate procedures knowledge in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
  • Cardiopulmonary Perfusion (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate cardiopulmonary perfusion knowledge in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
  • Equipment Maintenance (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to maintain equipment, products, or systems in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Assures that parts inventory is sufficient.
