There are over 80 reportable diseases in the state of TN. Incidents of communicable diseases continue to increase every year as Nashville’s population and social and professional networks grow. This position aims to engage, educate, and provide resources to medical providers, community partners, and residents of Davidson County regarding the importance of preventing, recognizing, treating, and reporting communicable diseases. This work is especially necessary in those areas serving vulnerable populations where social barriers and other inequities negatively impact overall health. This position will also support the Notifiable Disease Program by investigating and following up on reportable diseases as necessary.

- Establish, maintain, and expand relationships with healthcare providers.
- Educate and provide resources to community partners and residents about reportable diseases.
- Participate in community screenings and health fairs.
- Participate in emergency response training, activities, and exercises, as well as other training and departmental activities.
- Model and promote the department’s core values in all interactions with peers, community partners, and internal and external customers: PRIDE (professionalism, respect, integrity, dedication, and equality).
- Assist with outbreaks and other infectious disease emergency events as requested.
- Counsel patients on preventive measures, test results, program services, and procedural guidelines.
- Meet and educate providers regarding reportable diseases and reporting guidelines.
- Support the Notifiable Disease program by reviewing reports of communicable diseases and conducting interviews with patients as needed.
- 1 year of experience in customer service and healthcare relationship building.
- Basic knowledge of local, state, and federal guidelines related to infectious disease transmission, and prevention
- Valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
- Bachelor’s degree.

- Public health-related experience in infectious diseases with a good understanding of medical terminologies.
- Knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations applicable to public health agencies.
- Good customer service, verbal and written communication skills, and effective presentation skills.
- Good interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competence.
- Ability to interview, counsel, and communicate effectively with patients.
- Bachelor's degree in either the biological sciences, environmental health, public health, or a related field.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule and interact with diverse population.
