Girls on the Run SIERRAS Program Manager

Position Profile

The Girls on the Run® Program Manager must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. Girls on the Run provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living including introductions and education on important topics like goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect. The innovative curriculum gives girls an opportunity to listen and actively participate in learning how to commit to a healthy lifestyle and harness their inner strengths. Girls on the Run Sierras is a 501(c)(3) organization and currently serves the Reno-Tahoe area.

Girls on the Run believes that all girls and communities should have access to our programs. We warmly welcome the participation of any child who identifies as “girl”,non-binary or genderexpansive in our programs. We strive to eliminate barriers to participation, to continue creating programming that engages all communities, to be intentional about staff and volunteer diversity, and to promote a culture of inclusion across the organization.

The Program Manager is a full time, non-exempt position and reports to the Executive Director. The Program Manager is responsible for managing Spring and Fall Girls on the Run programs, volunteer coaches and interns. Key responsibilities within these areas include but are not limited to:


Program Outreach and Site Management

●Implement the Girls on the Run Sierras strategic program plan and collaborate with the team to achieve program goals

●Develop marketing strategies to grow our networks

●Work with community leaders, schools and other groups to maximize the success of programming

●Support the needs of new and existing sites by conducting site visits to ensure quality program implementation

●Ensure current site policies and procedures are being implemented and improvements are suggested as needed

●Coordinate and attend program events including site visits, prospective site or coach meetings, coach training, fundraisers and the Girls on the Run 5K events

Program/Coach Management and Training

●Integrate GOTR core values into internal and external communication

Communicate regularly and clearly with sites, coaches and families

●Recruit and train coaches to ensure program fidelity and quality

●Ensure all program sites are staffed with certified volunteer coaches

●Manage all aspects of coach training - from finding a site for training to implementing training - ensure CPR & First Aid and background checks are complete

●Follow and share all current coaching policies

●Monitor procedures and generate and use continuous improvement systems

●Manage volunteer applications, program sites applications through database

Manage all administrative pieces of program implementation including program inventory, registration information, program evaluations and applications in database

●Provide coaches with resources and inspiration for program delivery

●Develop effective coach recruitment and retention strategies that result in team of highly qualified volunteers that mirror the demographics of our community and girls served

●Support volunteer coaches and design appreciation initiatives

●Recruit and manage volunteer running buddies and 5K

●Lead the GOTRS program committee to work in alignment with strategic plan

Oversees website updates for areas related to program

Budget and Administrative

●Work with Executive Director to develop annual program budget

●Manage all areas of program budget and produce reports and narrative for board meetings

●Set up and manage program events, site and coach recruitment pages in database

●Ensure the timely and accurate collection of data; oversee the information management of rosters, girls, numbers and program revenue

●Oversee and manage all participant financial assistance policies and procedure

●Manage all coach files, sites files and other program related paperwork


Organizational Support

●Work with team to communicate program impact, coaching opportunities, and more using relevant and branded content via GOTR Sierras social media channels

●Play a key role at the fall and spring end-of-season 5K events

●Attend community events on behalf of the organization to raise awareness of the organization or in support of a community partnership

●Recruit adequate number of interns each season


Desired Qualifications

●BA or BS degree preferred

●Passion for Girls on the Run mission and the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health

●Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences (internal and external)

●Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions

Preferred Qualifications

●Fluent in Spanish

●Experience with Girls on the Run (or other similar girls, youth or wellness programs)

●Non-profit experience

●Training and facilitation experience

This position is full time (30-36 hours per week), offering an hourly rate of pay that equals $36,000 to $41,000 a year depending on experience, 13 paid holidays, accrued sick and vacation time, health, vision and dental insurance options, mileage and cell phone reimbursement.Some evening and weekend availability is needed to facilitate and support coach, volunteer and fundraising events. This position is in-person with flexibility to work from home.Ideal position start date is August 1, 2023.
