The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
CSIS is seeking a Program Coordinator and Research Assistant to join the Southeast Asia Program. The Program Coordinator and Research Assistant will assist in day-to-day operations, including budget management, outreach efforts, event planning and coordination, management of interns, and administrative support. The Program Coordinator and Research Assistant will also provide research assistance on substantive projects, co-author reports and analyses with senior staff, and help formulate the Program’s research agenda.
The Southeast Asia Program is recruiting a Program Coordinator and Research Assistant who is highly motivated, professional, and has a very strong interest and understanding of the domestic politics, foreign policy, and political economy of Southeast Asian nations.
The minimum salary for this position is $55,000.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
Administrative (70%):
  • Manage the publication process for reports and other digital products
  • Assist in preparation of fundraising proposals and reports to donors
  • Acts as a primary liaison for internal programs
  • Draft and edit external correspondence and communications
  • Maintain Southeast Asia Program calendars, correspondence, and travel itineraries
  • Maintain financial oversight of the program through budget preparation, analysis, and review
  • Draft contracts and manage expenses including payment to consultants/associates.
  • Coordinate event logistics for meetings, conferences (both in Washington and abroad), seminars, and briefings (including where relevant arranging food, AV, webcasting, travel accommodations)
  • Hire and supervises interns
  • Update web and social media content
  • Assist with outreach activities and contacts management
Research (30%):
  • Researching, drafting, and authoring publications, including large reports and other internal and external research products
  • Help formulate new research agendas and draft project proposals
  • Conduct research on a range of economic, political, and security topics in Southeast Asia in support of Program goals
  • Represent the Program by participating in meetings and coordinating on joint projects within CSIS and externally
Knowledge, Education, And Experience
  • Must possess strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups, media, governmental entities, and the general public.
  • 1-2 years of professional experience preferred.
  • Program management, budget, and event planning experience highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Southeast Asian political, security, and/or economic issues desired.
  • Experience with social media in a professional setting desired.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail essential.
  • B.A./B.S. required from an accredited U.S. institution or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution.
  • Must possess a self-starting, entrepreneurial mind-set and be able to work well independently and in teams.
  • Must be able to work in the United States.
