Reports to: Director, Friends Place


Job Summary:


Reporting to the director, the outreach and events coordinator is an integral part of the team at Friends Place. The events and outreach coordinator supports operations by preparing the guesthouse for events, offering hospitality to groups and organizations that use the space for meetings and retreats, and facilitating outreach to potential groups and partners. This position is part of the Community & Culture team with the Friends Committee on National Legislation and will support coordination of FCNL’s Annual Meeting and Spring Lobby Weekend.


This role is based in Washington, DC, and will require in-person work with regular opportunities for remote work.


Friends Place on Capitol Hill is a Quaker learning center and guesthouse. We provide meeting space, overnight accommodations, and civic education and engagement opportunities for groups. Offering multiple meeting spaces and lodging for 40, Friends Place is frequent host to schools, clubs, organizations, and congregations that have traveled to Capitol Hill for education, justice, and faith experiences.


Located in Washington, D.C., just five blocks from the U.S. Capitol, Friends Place on Capitol Hill is an independent 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit subsidiary of the FCNL Education Fund and affiliated with Friends Committee on National Legislation. These are Quaker nonprofit and nonpartisan organizations working together to advance peace, justice, and environmental stewardship.

Essential Job Duties:


  • Coordinate outreach to potential groups and community partners, including occasionally attending conferences and tabling at events.
  • Participate in all-staff gatherings, team meetings, and routine check-ins.
  • Inspect space to ensure compliance with applicable standards of quality before group arrivals and support day-to-day operations between scheduled cleanings, including trash, recycling, compost, laundry, and reporting any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Work with group contacts to ensure all meeting needs are met including space configuration, audio/visual requirements, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Oversee events and hosted activities.
  • Welcome guests and facilitate group orientations.
  • Serve as a member of the team that coordinates FCNL’s two major yearly events- Annual Meeting and Spring Lobby Weekend and oversees monthly internal events.
  • Collaborate on marketing strategies to promote visibility of Friends Place. This includes assistance with maintaining the Friends Place social media presence (Instagram and Facebook).

Minimum Required Job Qualifications


Education


  • High school diploma, Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent combination of education and experience


Experience


  • One to three years of relevant experience; event planning, community organizing, hospitality, working with youth (11-24 years old)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills


Preferred Job Qualifications


  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Teams, Instagram, Facebook
  • Spanish fluency, not required


Physical Demands & Work Environment


  • Must be able to occasionally lift and carry packages, supplies, and laundry bags (no more than 50 lbs)
  • This position requires the routine use of stairs (1-3 flights) to access office space, meeting rooms, bunkrooms, and supplies


Compensation & Work Expectations


  • Salary starts at $54,350 - $58,000 and is negotiable based on skills and experience and in relation to other similarly sized non-profits in the Washington, D.C. market.
