The Production Manager is responsible for the efficient and economical operation of the product packaging lines and/or processes; safe and effective use of staffing; compliance with the collective bargaining agreement and Company rules, regulations, and polices. The Production Manager is also responsible for the adherence to production costs, budgets and methodology and the achievement of quality and quantity standards for Sunsweet products. This is accomplished by managing teams across all areas of plant operations, driving continuous improvement through projects and standards, and empowering people to motivate and develop their capability.
Leadership of people includes communicating the vision & mission to gain the understanding & commitment of the people to achieve the objectives. Development of people through being a team builder with ability to recognize and develop the potential of all the production personnel. Proactive cooperation with other departments and groups. Modeling the way for others by practicing what is preached to create and maintain a workplace culture that engages and motivates associates at all levels. Focusing on results through setting ambitious objectives and taking initiative to find ways to reach and exceed those objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.
- Responsible for providing a framework for a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with all safety rules. Ensure that health and safety guidelines and regulations are followed by creating a strong “Safety First” culture.
- Adhere to Sunsweet quality standards to ensure product quality and Food Safety by following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), 5S organization, and all other quality initiatives.
- Organize and facilitate production line activities to ensure conformance to established requirements regarding quality, safety, employee relations, productivity, costs, etc.
- Monitor productivity data and help develop corrective action plans necessary to achieve annual productivity goals.
- Ensure exchange of information (cascade targets/escalate issues) for alignment within the operational teams. Drive the Daily Operational Review, Weekly Operational Review, and Monthly Operational review meetings by managing KPIs, analyzing data and driving action on red measures to achieve operational targets.
- Lead a continuous improvement/trouble-shooting employee involvement culture using problem solving tools and strategies.
- Promote and enhance a positive labor management relationship including efforts to continuously improve teamwork and establish high levels of employee involvement.
- Provide timely feedback and coaching to individuals and teams to develop them to their full potential and to achieve objectives. Ensure succession plans and development, coaching direct reports (where applicable) including development of specific training as needed.
- Ensure team members receive timely, relevant, and updated training both for job specific tasks and leadership development.
- Responsible for annual budget of production department both development and adherence to.
- Deliver effective change leadership to drive business changes while minimizing people impact.
- Ensure operational data is inputted timely and accurately including but not limited to yields, downtime, production paperwork, holds, etc. and ensure validation when necessary.
- Work with vendors to improve ingredient and material performance. Work with procurement to develop action plans and drive execution.
- Work with the Sales, Marketing, and Procurement teams to provide Production dept. input for the development of new products. Coordinate the testing of new products and processes on the production floor as well as the testing and providing samples of new/revised packaging materials, commodities, and finished products.
- Any other tasks assigned by the Plant Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of HACCP & GMP's
- Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills. High energy level and excellent follow-up skills. Creative problem solving, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple priorities. Great people skills, maintaining a positive attitude, and the ability to motivate people.
- Have the ability to make well educated decisions in a timely manner. Minimal travel required as needed to support business needs.
Education and Experience:
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment required.
- Exposure to implementing continuous improvement, employee involvement techniques, and change management.
- SAP experience preferred.
- S. Degree in Engineering, Business Management, Food Science, or related field required.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Tools
Physical/Safety Requirements:
- Ability to climb stairs and move around the production floor.
- Tolerate extended periods of sitting at desk.
