Job Description

Status: Full-time, year-round, salaried, exempt position.

Location: Silverthorne, Colorado.

Housing Offered: Not at this time. Must live in area (Summit County)

Working Schedule: 40+ hours a week Thursday thru Monday. Occasional schedule changes. This position has some seasonal variety in that summers will be very busy with cooking, special events, and family weekends. Summer is a very busy time at the ranch with lots of guests. Winters will be less busy in regards to cooking and special events but will require more cleaning, home maintenance oriented tasks, and making meals for family in Denver. Thanksgiving thru March also tend to be very busy due to ski season.

Holiday Schedule: As some holidays are very busy times at the ranch, this position requires working on 4th of July, Thanksgiving day, and most of the Christmas season with the exception of Christmas day.

Vacation Schedule: 80 vacation hours allotted for this position annually. Ideally, the vacation time will be taken 1 week in the April/May timeframe and 1 week in the October/November timeframe.

POSITION SUMMARY

A private family is seeking a trustworthy, mature, well-organized and efficient personal chef/house administrator. Besides the training and talent required for preparing delicious food for family and guests, this person needs to have a temperament that is very flexible to last minute changes, special requests and the differing personalities of the family and friends being served. This position requires the ability to shop carefully for quality and to manage the kitchen for efficiency, cleanliness and cost effectiveness. Ideal candidate should have strong culinary skills, exceptional organizational skills with great attention to detail. They must be a self starter, with a joyful attitude, and strong people skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties: The following are the essential duties related to this job

Creating and coordinating wonderful dining experiences based on dietary needs and preferences for family and their guests. At times these meals will be family style or buffet style. At other times, the meals might be plated and served. Serving meals will also include dish cleanup and kitchen cleanup after meals.

Assist with coordination and execution of special events such as retreats, family weekends, parties

Monitor and maintain the ranch calendar and coordinate with other employees on the ranch to ensure everything is ready for family and guest arrival.

Perform grocery shopping in accordance with employer’s guidelines and stock the houses prior to family arrival.

Assure that all routine household supplies are always on hand for all houses on the property

Prep, cook and store simple dishes for easy meals to have on hand for random and impromptu visits from family members

Arrange for, coordinate and supervise any special event caterers and cleaning staff

Keep running records of all household expenses and compare to approved budget

Develop and maintain checklists/shopping lists for all houses: groceries, regular cleaning tasks, seasonal cleaning tasks, maintenance, appliance warranties

Monitor all houses on the ranch regularly to ensure plumbing, appliances, lights, etc are in good working order. Communicate to Ranch Manager any issues or necessary maintenance.

Ensure property is secure when outside service people are there

Maintain a meticulously clean prep kitchen

Observe occupational, health, and safety standards in the kitchen at all times

Perform any other miscellaneous tasks as requested by employer

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Direct supervisory responsibility for any temporary staff hired for cooking, cleaning, events

· Indirect supervisory responsibility for cleaning crew

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the character, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education:

o Bachelors Degree preferred.

Experience:

o 2 to 5 years of similar working experience

Skills/Abilities:

o Professional etiquette, strong moral character, discretion and confidentiality a must

o Flexibility with an understanding that position could sometimes require long hours and off schedule hours as well as last-minute changes to who may be coming to ranch

o Strong culinary skills

o Strong organizational skills

o Strong relational and communication skills

o Have an eye for detail and presentation

o Able to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time efficiently. Punctual.

o Have a positive attitude with a willingness to learn

o High adaptability to change and responsiveness to family’s needs

Technology skills:

o Computer skills helpful

o Understanding of basic audio/visual equipment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Some limited travel may be required. Must be able to drive. Employee may be required to regularly work for long periods while standing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Able to thrive in an often isolated environment. Much of the meal prep work and house administration tasks will be done in the back prep kitchen without a lot of interaction with others.
