GFiber is recruiting a privacy engineer to join our security/privacy/abuse response team. This distributed & remote team is responsible for protecting our customers, our infrastructure, and our employees. A successful privacy engineer brings a combination of subject matter expertise, a privacy mindset, & professional curiosity.
Role Description
As a Privacy Engineer at GFiber, you will be responsible for running the technical privacy programs within GFiber. You will work with internal engineering teams and our vendors to design & implement systems and solutions that turn privacy policies into technical controls. As a Privacy Engineer, you will be part of the security/privacy/abuse response team, performing privacy reviews, participating in the on-call rotation, and other duties as assigned.
In this role, you'll:
  • Design and implement privacy capabilities and policies that will be integrated into our products and provide technical consulting on privacy for product teams.
  • Analyze, design software enhancements for new data processing activities with a goal of developing technical solutions and systems to help mitigate privacy vulnerabilities and prevent potential future privacy risks.
  • Analyze and audit data through its lifecycle to ensure that privacy requirements are being met.
  • Design and implement systems and technical solutions required to operationalize the data privacy and governance programs, including evaluation and adoption of third party tools.
  • Review, critique, and guide all engineering, user experience, product and infrastructure proposals to assure that privacy and protections are implemented into the design.
  • Respond to privacy incidents, if they occur, including collecting information on scope and root cause as well as managing remediation.

  • Guide engineering teams during product development to ensure that their data collection and usage practices are transparent, protect user privacy, and mitigate risk.
At a minimum we'd like you to have:
  • Previous experience as a hands-on Privacy subject matter expert working with in-house engineering team.
  • 6+ years of experience in a related role and experience with concepts and practices such as threat modeling, data anonymization and classification, auditing access to data, and review of requests for data access
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field or equivalent experience
It's preferred if you have:
  • Experience operationalizing privacy programs across teams and transformational programs
  • Significant knowledge of technical product privacy concerns and strategies
  • Patience and negotiation skills with a track record of achieving good user outcomes
  • Ability to identify stakeholders and points of view, and bring people together to agree on and execute a strategy
  • Significant experience working with cross-functional teams (e.g. Legal, PM, PR, Marketing)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $157,000 K - $224,000 K + bonus + equity + benefits. As pay varies by location, your recruiter will share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
