Position Purpose & Focus
The Principal Project Owner is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and successful completion of complex software projects. They collaborate with stakeholders to define project objectives and develop comprehensive plans. They provide leadership to the project team, monitor progress, and manage risks and issues. The Principal Project Owner is skilled in stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving. They ensure quality deliverables, enforce project standards, and drive continuous improvement. Strong project management experience, leadership skills, and domain knowledge are essential for this role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Project Planning:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines.
- Develop a comprehensive project plan, including tasks, dependencies, and resource allocation.
Leadership and Team Management:
- Provide leadership and guidance to the project team, ensuring clear communication, coordination, and alignment of efforts.
- Set performance expectations, motivate team members, and address any issues or conflicts that arise.
- Guides and coaches the Scrum Team on Agile practices and principles to deliver high quality products and services to our customers and partners.
- Build and foster a collaborative working environment among project team members.
- Collaborate with the Scrum team on cross-functional skill sets and domain knowledge.
Project Execution and Monitoring:
- Oversee the execution of the project plan, ensuring tasks are completed on time and within budget.
- Integrates customer needs with business competencies to drive growth in both existing and emerging markets.
- Ownership of the delivery of features and capabilities
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or obstacles, and implement mitigation strategies as needed.
Stakeholder Management:
- Foster strong relationships, manage expectations, and ensure effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Engage with stakeholders at various levels, including executives, clients, and team members.
Risk Management:
- Develop contingency plans and monitor risk mitigation activities to minimize project disruptions and maximize outcomes.
- Identify, assess, and manage project risks and issues.
Quality Assurance:
- Establish and enforce quality standards for project deliverables.
- Conduct regular reviews and inspections to ensure adherence to requirements and best practices.
Change Management:
- Anticipate and manage changes in project scope, requirements, or objectives.
- Assess the impact of changes, communicate effectively, and adjust project plans accordingly.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Provide regular updates to stakeholders, highlighting progress, challenges, and key milestones.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including project plans, status reports, meeting minutes, and other relevant records.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify lessons learned and best practices from completed projects.
- Mplement process improvements and share knowledge to enhance project management practices within the organization.
Education and Experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- 3+ years experience with JIRA, Confluence, git, and similar tools
- 5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or Project Owner
- Problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time with tight deadlines.
- Leadership skills
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- 5+ years of experience in the Transportation industry
- Ability to analyze and resolve conflicts.
- Certified Scrum Master Preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence key stakeholders to support company strategies, process improvements and operational decisions.
- 5+ years of experience in agile methodologies
- Proven track record of delivering data driven solutions with a customer-first mindset.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Computer Science or a related field.
- Extensive experience in project management, including leading complex projects from initiation to closure.
