The Veterinary Technician I, under the supervision of a professional staff member or veterinary technician II or higher, assists in the treatment of animals admitted to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, and provides assistance to the professional staff. May assist in instructing veterinary students in proper clinical technique for supporting primary care. Helps to maintain a sanitary and functionally well- organized service within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

The VMTH offers additional incentives for our veterinary technician staff to balance their careers, family, and pets. The VMTH provides a generous cellphone allowance, opportunities for continuing education at the local, state, and national level, scrubs, discounted pet care, and much more. Shift differential pay is available for eligible shifts. There is opportunity for career ladder advancement as well as opportunity for licensed veterinary technicians to work towards specialty certification. The Blinn Veterinary Technology Program is housed in the same building as the VMTH. There are flexible work schedules for evening, overnight and weekend shifts in some service areas of the VMTH.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for an entry level include: Associate degree in Veterinary Technology, Biomedical Science, Animal Science or a related area, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Preferred understanding of equipment used in a veterinary teaching hospital.

Salary Range: $19.11 - $21.02

Work Schedule: Candidates must have the ability to work alternative shifts, holidays, weekends, and on-call duty.

Other Requirements and Factors: Must have the ability to work around animals, hay, or dust. Ability to move heavy loads.

Essential Personnel: This position is considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless or until relieved by their direct supervisor.
