Job Description
What You Will Do
The Engineering Services (ES) Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions that enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security missions. This position is within the ES Division and is assigned to the Institutional Project Delivery (IPD) Group. The Institutional Pressure Safety Support team in ES-IPD is responsible for implementing the Pressure Safety Program at LANL. This position supports nuclear, accelerator, and non-nuclear facilities and programs across 38 square miles of the Laboratory.
This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Engineer 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Pressure Safety Engineer 3 ($119,200 - $201,100)
The selected candidate will serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the Pressure Safety Program and will be responsible for aiding fellow laboratory personnel with implementing the Pressure Safety requirements from 10CFR851, Worker Safety and Health Program.
You will be responsible for ensuring pressurized piping systems are designed to be safe for workers throughout their entire lifecycle - from design to decommisioning. You will need to have strong knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts associated with pressure systems and overpressure protection. Additionally, you will be expected to serve as a mentor to junior pressure safety personnel around LANL.
Pressure Safety Engineer 4 ($143,100 - $248,200)
In addition to the duties described above, at Level 4 you will be expected to contribute to improvement of LANL's Engineering Standards, facilitate technical growth of the Pressure Safety Program, make visionary organizational contributions to improve pressure safety, assist the Team Lead with work planning, staffing projects, and hiring.
