Job Description
What You Will Do
Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
The Maintenance and Site Services (MSS) Division is a multidisciplinary organization whose primary mission is to provide the Laboratory-both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities-with safe, reliable, and efficient infrastructure maintenance and utilities support.
Position Overview
The Maintenance Manager 3 is responsible for managing the Planned Major Maintenance (PMM) program for MSS. PMMis fundamental to an effective equipment reliability / asset management program. PMM ensures that facility equipment vulnerabilities related to aging and obsolescence of equipment are identified, risk ranked, analyzed and eliminated or mitigated. PMM is becoming increasingly important as LANL facilities are aging, resulting in equipment failure modes, mechanicals and causes that were not experienced earlier in facility life.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Extensive expertise with a computerized work management system such as Asset Suites, SAP, Maximo etc.
  • Significant understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting the maintenance program.
  • Ability to challenge individuals to develop skill outside of their comfort zone. Identify and develop successor to key roles; Deal directly with internal discipline to resolve problems and provide solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of working planning and scheduling processes. Thorough knowledge of plant operating practices and procedures.

Education
Position typically requires a bachelor's degree and three-to-five years of related management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post-graduate course work may be desirable.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Please refer to Policy Policy P701 for applicant eligibility requirements.
Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, October 31st. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
