Job Description
What You Will Do
This position will be responsible for the following maintenance programs: Boilers, Pressure Safety, and Above Ground Storage Tanks.
Los Alamos National laboratory is seeking an experienced Pressure Safety Lead for the Maintenance Programs group. This position will report to the Maintenance and Site Services Maintenance Programs Group Lead. The selected candidate will have a strong mechanical background and will perform periodic inspections on boiler systems, pressure vessels, and above ground storage tanks (AST) at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Maintenance Manager 3 ($119,200 - $201,100)
In this position you will be responsible for:

  • Interfacing with engineering design review, applications of engineering methods, and technology-aided engineering tools
  • Developing resolution to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
  • Maintaining work execution metrics to track the progress of the pressure safety inspection programs
  • Providing SME-level review of operation and maintenance (O&M) Criterion/preventative maintenance instruction (PMI) documents
  • Communicating with work groups outside of MSS-MP to streamline inspection execution
  • Providing support to boiler, pressure vessel, and AST inspection programs
  • Scheduling inspections and use of necessary equipment with asset owners
  • Leveraging experience inspecting the repair/alteration of boilers, pressure safety, and AST equipment
  • Maintaining/updating equipment databases as the program grows
  • Providing leadership/mentorship to junior inspectors

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Facility Management
In-depth knowledge of and experience with facility management, including pressure safety design and maintenance, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control, facility control systems, and upgrades/renovations. In-depth knowledge of and experience with government regulations affecting pressure safety maintenance and management.
Maintenance Operations
In-depth understanding of and experience with facility work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting performance.
Leadership
Proven experience and skill in management, supervision, and human resources administration of assigned employees. Demonstrated experience and skill developing and implementing organizational strategies and objectives. Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership, mentorship, prioritization, and management of assigned employees in a collaborative and participative environment to build strong teams. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills within a facility management work environment.
Additional Job Requirements for Pressure Safety Lead:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification requires:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors NB-23 code, and standards related to design, construction, installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, repair, alteration, and re-rating of boilers and pressure vessels, and piping systems
  • Working knowledge of non-destructive testing techniques and welding processes for ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sections V and IX
  • Demonstrated experience with API 650, 510, 570, 571, 651, 652, 653, 579 and SP001 related to fixed equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sections I, II, IV, and VIII
  • Demonstrated experience in design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance of boilers and pressure vessels
Training/Certifications: Expert Knowledge and or certification in API 510, API 570, SP-001, and NBIC.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math, or related degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Certifications in: SP001, API 510, API 570, API 653, NBIC commission (IS,R, O endorsements)
  • Active Q clearance
  • Demonstrated experience with LANL business systems for management and administration of personnel including timekeeping, payroll, budgeting, travel, training and certification, performance reviews, and payroll policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present safety and technical briefings to large groups of a diverse workforce representative of all types and levels of workers
  • At least one year of experience in a nuclear facility
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of LANL maintenance program policy and procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DOE and LANL standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, October 31st. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
