THE COMPANY
Our client is an industry leader in Distribution, Logistics, and Transportation -headquartered out of Buffalo, NY. They are currently operating numerous nationwide warehouses in across the United States, and provide warehousing, fulfillment, full load trucking, drayage, intermodal, less than truckload and parcel delivery across North America to manufacturers and distributors in the Food and Beverage, Pulp Paper and Packaging, Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, Retail, and other related industries.
THE POSITION
The President of Operations is a key strategic leader responsible for advancing and overseeing the warehouse, shipping, and operations components of the business. This person is responsible for providing and implementing the overall strategic operations plan and vision for the organization. They will bring operational, managerial, and administrative procedures, reporting structures, and operational controls to the company.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the President of Operations will set the tone and cadence for continuous improvement across all distribution operations through the integration and discipline of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and/or other progressive warehouse distribution standards. The incumbent will develop and build a team of strong and diverse shipping and operations leaders across the organization who are focused on delivering outstanding customer service, logistics excellence, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, customer commitment, teamwork, respect, and recognition.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create effective measurement tools to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of internal and external processes.
- Provide forward-thinking leadership to the organization that aligns with the Company’s business plan and overall strategic vision.
- Maintain overall responsibility for all operations in warehousing/distribution facilities, inclusive of building maintenance, product inventory and safety.
- Work with other executives on budgeting, forecasting and resource allocation programs.
- Partner with the CFO to achieve favorable financial results with respect to sales, profitability, cash flow, mergers and acquisitions, systems, reporting and controls.
- Drive Company results from both an operational and financial perspective, working collaboratively with the CEO and other executive team leaders.
- Establish strong symbiotic working relationships with the Company's Logistics and Transportation divisions resulting in a united enterprise.
- Provide timely and accurate reports outlining the operational condition of the Company.
- Actively seek out and participate in growth opportunities, expansions and acquisitions that will strengthen the Company’s portfolio.
- Set challenging and realistic goals at all levels that drive growth, performance and profitability.
- Partner with the CTO in the continual evolution of technology that supports the Company’s mission.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
- Strong business acumen and a demonstrated ability to understand the full spectrum of the business, from sale through to final-mile delivery.
- The ability to thrive in a fast paced, and rapidly changing dynamic environment.
- An ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with key business partners, employees, peers, suppliers, and customers is essential to this role.
- Must be an independent thinker with the ability to make tough decisions when necessary.
- A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college is preferred; a technical degree or MBA is a nice to have. Adequate experience will be considered in lieu of education.
- 5+ years of executive level leadership experience at a manufacturing or shipping and logistics company that practices lean, innovative technologies to deliver best-in-class results. The experience should come from a known and respected manufacturing or logistics entity, preferably as a COO or President.
- 10 years of Warehouse/Distribution experience required.
