Our Laboratory seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to spearhead cutting-edge functional genomics in the field of early onset immune mediated disorders. Our lab applies systems-level analyses to gain mechanistic insights into human physiology, pathology and disease, and utilizes this knowledge to discover novel anti-inflammatory and immunotherapeutic approaches early onset immune mediated diseases. This is a superb opportunity for a sharp a scientist to spearhead ambitious projects exploring the immunogenetic mechanisms of these immune mediated diseases. We pursue diverse projects spanning both clinical and basic research, are highly collaborative, relying on both academic and industrial collaborations, and offer opportunities in developing projects. Opportunities exist to get trained in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics leading to board-eligibility in laboratory genetics through the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Additional goals will be to train an individual who is proficient in the interpretation of both clinical cytogenetic and molecular genetic testing relevant to the diagnosis and management of human genetic disease at the end of the training. Upon completion of this post-doctoral fellowship, the individual will have knowledge of relevant management and counseling issues regarding a wide range of genetic disorders and be capable of communicating information to other medical professionals, and to the individual or family.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research and grant proposals. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Design and carry out research projects independently to achieve research goals
  • Write manuscripts for publications in scientific journals
  • Project management, including oversight of other personnel in the laboratory
  • Develop new protocols, test and evaluate a variety of approaches
  • Help prepare grant proposals and apply for mentored fellowship grant.
  • Regularly present new data at lab meetings
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., MBBS., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Tissue culture- experience with intestinal tissues.
  • Experience with bioinformatics and/or statistics analyzing large datasets
  • Molecular biology experience, RNA/Protein extraction/handling, rtPCR, Western blotting, etc
  • Ability to troubleshoot/optimize experimental protocols and assays.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proper training in handling of human blood, tissue and other biohazard materials
