The Department of Music at Emory University invites applications for a one-year fellowship in music performance or composition, beginning fall 2023. The Emory Arts Fellows Program is an initiative of Emory Arts, and is supported through a generous gift from Sarah Arison 07B.

The Department of Music seeks an early career performer and/or composer with a distinctive creative practice and record of initiating new projects. We are particularly interested in a musical innovator whose work expands the creative offerings in our department and creates connections between composition and performance. Areas of creative focus are open—for instance, instrumental, vocal, conducting, electronic, western, non-western, popular, improvised, new media, and multimedia.

Beginning September 1, 2023, the 12-month, full-time fellowship offers a $45,000 salary, health benefits, $10,000 in Emory-approved research funds, reimbursement of up to $2,000 in relocation costs, and support for a Spring 2024 concert or other presentation. The fellow will offer one class each semester in their area of artistic research. In addition to teaching in person, fellows are expected to maintain regular office hours, participate in on-campus arts events, and actively engage students during the fall and spring semesters. In the summer session 2024, fellows are free to pursue their own work. On-campus studio space will be provided, including use of the Electronic Music Studio and the Performing Arts Studio or the Emerson Concert Hall of the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts as a performance venue. Access to music facilities and offices will be available from August 2023 through August 2024.
