The Bipartisan Policy Center is a Washington, DC-based think tank that actively fosters bipartisanship by combining the best ideas from both parties to promote health, security, and opportunity for all Americans. Our policy solutions are the product of informed deliberations by former elected and appointed officials, business and labor leaders, and academics and advocates who represent both sides of the political spectrum. BPC prioritizes one thing above all else: getting things done.
BPC works to reconcile the competing aims of highly interested advocates, corporations, and policy experts and design politically viable consensus solutions. We seek out individuals and organizations that are deeply vested in the outcome of its policy projects and ask that they check absolutely nothing at the door, bringing all their passion, political perspectives, and interests to the table. BPC believes that the fundamental strength of American democracy is unity forged amid diversity, and we endeavor to represent this pluralism in all of our policy negotiations.
BPC focuses on policy solutions to strengthen our democracy, promote economic growth, opportunity and inclusion, address climate change and create better health outcomes for all Americans.
BPC is currently seeking a Policy Analyst to support activities for BPC’s Energy Program. Our portfolio includes a wide array of energy and climate policy issues aimed at keeping the U.S. a global leader, including energy production, innovation, deep decarbonization, carbon management, and energy infrastructure permitting and siting. BPC’s Energy Program brings together political leaders and experts to conduct analysis and develop policy recommendations. We work with stakeholders from other organizations to advance our policy objectives. The position of Policy Analyst at BPC is a versatile one, involving a variety of tasks, often simultaneously. The analyst will be expected to learn about new and evolving policy issues and will interact with policy experts and political leaders.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct research on a variety of topics related to decarbonization, energy innovation, and the energy transition, including agriculture and forestry climate solutions (with a near-term focus on conservation and Farm Bill programs, bioproducts, and carbon markets), carbon management and accounting, and industrial decarbonization.
Primary responsibility for drafting major written work products, including white papers, reports, issue briefs, and fact sheets.
Lead research and drafting of blogs and other similar products.
Participate in and support engagement with stakeholders, senior fellows, project principals and BPC task force members.
Support energy project communications activities, including developing, reviewing, editing collateral, assisting with social media and other digital collateral.
Work with development team to draft grant proposals, grant reports, and support other donor management needs.
Primary responsibility for mentoring and overseeing the work of interns that support the Energy Program team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong policy background with knowledge of the federal energy policy landscape, key stakeholders, energy data, and technologies.
Bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy, engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline preferred.
Bachelor’s degree and 2 to 4 years of experience, preferably in policy, analysis or business; or
Master’s degree with 0 to 2 years of experience.
Excellent quantitative and research skills.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
Strong team player with a collaborative spirit.
Strong ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with often overlapping deadlines while maintaining a high degree of thoroughness and accuracy.
BPC offers a highly competitive salary and provides generous benefits. Individuals interested in this position should send resume, cover letter, writing sample, and three references in one document. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. BPC does not sponsor employment visas.
BPC is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace dedicated to pursuing and hiring a diverse workforce.
COVID Guidelines
The health and safety of our community is our highest priority. As such, the Bipartisan Policy Center is encouraging all newly hired staff members to be fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized and/or approved COVID-19 vaccine, and to receive a booster shot as soon as eligible
Work Schedule
The work/life balance of employees is a priority for the Bipartisan Policy Center. As a result, BPC is currently operating on a hybrid schedule. Employees at BPC are currently coming into the office three times a week. Exact time and schedules will be determined between an employee and their manager.
This position is budgeted at $68,000.
