THE POSITION


The Ventura Police Department is recruiting for the position of Police Records Supervisor . This is a great opportunity for an experienced police records expert to take the next step in their career. The City is looking for candidates who are ready to take a supervisory role and bring their police records expertise to the Police Records Supervisor position. The Police Records Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of all activities and staff responsibilities within the Police Records Unit. The position also oversees the operation of the department's computerized records system.


What You'll Do


The Police Records Supervisor is the first-line supervisory classification in the Police Records classification series. The supervisor is responsible for the direct oversight, supervision and evaluation of assigned staff, as well as program administration, functioning independently, exercising independent judgement and making sound decisions. This classification is distinguished from the Police Records Manager by the latter's overall management responsibility over a variety of functional areas.


Who You Are


The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated 1) the ability to successfully select, supervise, train, and evaluate the work of staff, 2) knowledge of the California Public Records Act and the Evidence Code sections pertaining to subpoena duces tecum, 3) an ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and 4) experience with the operation of law enforcement records management system.

THE SCHEDULE


  • Week of September 11th - Oral Panel Interview are tentatively scheduled for this date. Qualifying candidates will be notified by email if they are invited to the panel interview process.
  • September 22, 2023 - Candidates will be notified of the outcome of the interview by this date.
  • September 1, 2023 - Candidates will be notified by email of their status by this date.
  • August 28, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. - Application Deadline. Applications must be submitted by this date to be considered for the position.
  • Week of September 11th - Department Selection Interviews are tentatively scheduled for this date. Qualifying candidates will be notified by email if they are invited to the panel interview process.

Position Qualifications


WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO QUALIFY


A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and three years of increasingly responsible police records clerical experience in a law enforcement agency involving computerized records management system operation and some supervisory or leadworker experience.


License: Possession of a valid California Class C driver license is required.


Certificate


  • Possession of the POST Professional Records Supervisor certificate is highly desirable upon application and required within one year of employment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, an appropriate, valid CLETS certification issued by the Department of Justice is required within one year of employment.
