Job Description

The Plant Manager will serve as an integral member of the manufacturing leadership team, reporting to the Senior Vice President Manufacturing. Her/his key responsibility is to ensure the entire DFW plant operation, including finished product warehousing and shipping, operates in a profitable, safe, and sanitary manner while complying with all federal, state, local and/or customer requirements, including OSHA, American Institute of Baking (AIB). The DFW plant employes 300 – 350 people and operates on a 5 x 24 schedule but can flex depending on seasonality.


Responsibilities


People Leadership

  • Develop and execute short and long range plant goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures that align with the company strategic and annual operating plans, Vision, Mission and Principles.
  • Responsible for direct supervision of plant operations to accomplish the plant goals and objectives.
  • Develop processes and business partner relationships with internal and external groups that will improve plant and company operations.
  • Ensure priorities and goals are cascaded within the plant, staff performance evaluations are prepared and delivered timely and staff receives appropriate training for current needs and expected future capabilities.
  • Instill a no-blame culture to support transparency, continuous improvement and innovation across the plant.

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee the complete production manufacturing process from the ERP to floor operations.
  • Develop and execute plans to achieve organizational goals and objectives in safety, food safety, cost control and quality.
  • Manage all aspects of plant sanitation including weekly sanitation, waste elimination and people management that aligns and adheres to all SQF requirements.
  • Develop and manage all maintenance aspects including a full preventive maintenance (PM) program, work order completion tracking, program sustainability, MRO purchasing and facility maintenance.
  • Manage warehouse shipping and receiving to support daily operations and sales demand requirements.
  • Lead with a people-first mindset to include items such as an active Safety Committee, timely safety training and full engagement in key safety activities.

Administrative Leadership

  • Actively participate in the development of the manufacturing budget and provide variance analysis support. Cascade to the team to ensure understanding and individual performance alignment.
  • Work closely with internal partners to support the daily plant operation:
  1. HR – reconciling ADP for labor compliance and accurate employee pay, employee performance improvement plans/disciplinary actions, attendance, temporary to full-time employee ratio, overtime %, etc.
  2. QA – weekly GMP audits, holds reconciliation, environmental monitoring analysis, customer complaint action planning (CAPAs), etc.
  3. Plant Controllers – weekly and period forecasts, MRO spend analysis, labor performance, material usage variance, raw ingredient gap analysis, productivity optimization, etc.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; with a preference for Engineering, Business or Food Science.
  • Intimate knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and best practices for food production. This includes all federal, state, local and/or customer requirements, including SQF, OSHA, AIB.
  • ERP system proficiency.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skill; able to analyze, organize, summarize and articulate complex information.
  • Proactive and responsive team player with ability to quickly prioritize among numerous pressing tasks. Ability to meet deadlines in a timely and accurate manner, capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Prior experience as a Plant Manager or higher role with full plant and/or multi-site operational responsibility.
  • Lean Manufacturing a big plus.
  • Bilingual English / Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in building and mentoring high performance teams committed to quality, promoting a spirit of teamwork, a culture of continuous improvement and innovation that results in operating efficiencies and high product quality. This includes the ability to manage people in a matrix organization.
  • Detailed, organized and communicative with good command of language. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
