The Plant Controller will be responsible for directing all accounting functions of the site, thereby assuring the integrity of the accounting function as well as supporting and influencing decision-making and the direction of the company. Highly motivated and team-oriented, this person will possess an excellent knowledge of U.S. accounting practices and strong supervisory skills. The Controller will have the ability to balance detailed transactional work with large-scale accounting projects.
Responsibilities
  • Follow internal policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely recognition of operations financial impacts and accuracy of reserves; suggest changes to internal policies when the need arises.
  • Ensure plant accounting compliance with GAAP, SOX, and Bonnell/Tredegar policies, including maintaining proper electronic and hard copy documentation and maintaining control environment at the plant.
  • Partner with the plant team to identify, evaluate and recommend actions to improve profitability, reduce material, conversion and fixed costs at the plant and participate in strategy formulation.
  • Support sound decision making via financial modeling, capital project analysis, and professional judgment.
  • Manage the transactional accounting function by reviewing key control points and reports.
  • Review the general ledger, the trial balance and physical inventories and cycle counts.
  • Direct and ensure the financial integrity of plant assets, accounting, and reporting.
  • Provided needed analytical support, variance analysis, financial and management reporting and for income statement and balance sheet.
  • Identify improvement opportunities, drive execution and accountability to maximize plant and business unit financial performance including improving site profitability, manufacturing cost optimization, & working capital management.
  • Manage period-end closing activities.
  • Perform variance analysis of actual operating profit results to Plan and Forecast, understand and quantify the underlying drivers; report the analysis to the plant & corporate users.
  • Identify current informational and analytical needs of the site management team, provide analyses and decision-making support data requested by the plant and/or business teams in relation to financial aspects of plant performance and product cost.
  • Prepare cost models and “what-if” scenarios to evaluate potential outcomes of actions considered by site management team.
  • Train plant team on financial and accounting matters and better use of cost and analysis information.
  • Directly or functionally supervise Sales Invoicing, Accounts Payable and Treasury functions and act as A/P and Treasury back up, when necessary.
  • Develop annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, working in conjunction with the plant team.
  • The role will ensure necessary processes and functions are maintained, monitored, and controlled in accordance with financial standards, corporate and business unit policies.
  • Controllership.
  • Direct internal financial reporting function at the plant.
  • Support of annual budget process and forecast updates.
  • Lead and direct activities to ensure proper asset control and valuation.
  • Consult site investment project owners on proper classification of capital vs. expense items; evaluate economic returns / benefits on proposed capital investments and continuous improvement projects; conduct post-audits.
  • Support audit activities and follow up on internal and external audit results to address deficiencies.
  • Lead plant and support business’ efforts to improve site profitability, optimize costs, inventory and make sound financial decisions.
  • Lead site process improvement efforts / projects related to financial information enhancements.
  • The position will partner with the plant leadership team and other plant personnel to ensure the timeliness, integrity, and accuracy of the plant’s financial records.
  • Perform period income statement and balance sheet analysis for the plant with a focus on causes of change resulting from significant changes or metrics which are off of plan and budget.
Qualifications
In addition to being able fulfill the duties of this role, of particular importance will be the candidate’s authentic leadership skills demonstrated by having developed or helped develop an organizational environment of trust, team collaboration and cooperation, learning, and personal growth. We are seeking candidates that also have experience in business environments characterized by challenging economic conditions; with rapid change being of particular importance.
  • Previous experience with Excel, Word and accounting-related software, specifically Oracle and Hyperion.
  • Drive to take control of personal career development.
  • Ability to recognize financial and tax issues that require contacting appropriate resources in Bonnell and Tredegar
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems and interaction between financial and other systems
  • Willingness to go beyond past experiences and seek out additional commitments in support of the financial team’s objectives.
  • Minimum 7 years-Accounting/Manufacturing.
  • Master’s degree and/or CMA a plus.
  • Ability to identify and implement processes and other improvements, partnering with others as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with extensive accounting experience with multi-site manufacturing organizations of similar or greater scale as Bonnell.
  • Minimum 5 years-Financial Analysis/Managerial.
  • Strong communication (oral and written), analytical, organization, planning and project management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of and ability to understand and drive assessment of issues in GAAP.
