Job Description
:
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director, Piano Technology, and the broad supervision of the Senior Director of Performance Technology and Facilities, the Piano Technician I (PTI) is responsible for the implementation and delivery of specialized acoustic piano and digital keyboard services for successful use of current and future keyboard instruments by the Professional Performance Division (PFDV) and the entire college
community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Functional
a. Services piano and keyboard instruments for teaching studios, classrooms, ensemble rooms
and practice rooms.
b. Troubleshoot issues with college pianos and digital keyboards, and recommend the most
suitable solutions.
c. Provides piano repair services including but not limited to: tuning, voicing, regulation, repairs, piano
refurbishing, preventative maintenance, and other duties as seen fit.
d. Maintains a schedule of work to meet completion dates and technical specifications of college
acoustic and digital pianos.
e. Addresses student/faculty piano and keyboard concerns.
f. Responsible for maintaining an accurate and up to date database of their daily work.
g. Maintain piano climate control systems.
h. Assists in the supervision of acoustic and digital piano moves.
2. Teamwork
a. Promotes a positive and professional work environment.
b. Works cooperatively with the Performance Technology Department towards providing required services for the college.
c. Works cooperatively with Concert Operations, Professional Writing Division, Music Education, Music Therapy, Institutional Advancement, Academic Affairs, Music Production and
Engineering, and all other departments and divisions within the college.
3. Professional Development
a. Stays informed of technology and support advancements, specifically those that are, or can be applied at Berklee College.
b. Stays up-to-date with any required or suggested certifications.
c. Participate in required training for technical, professional and interpersonal skills.
4. Knowledge and Skills Required
a. Minimum of 2 years of piano technician experience. Bachelors Degree preferred.
b. Piano Technician’s Guild Associate Piano Technician Certification preferred.
c. Strong interpersonal skills to understand the broad range of needs and various requirements for delivering excellent customer service.
d. Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of administrative software products in an Apple
environment, including but not limited to: operating systems, spreadsheets, word processing,
databases, web browsers, e-mail clients, calendar clients and mobile applications.
e. Demonstrated knowledge of, and proficiency with use of electronic piano tuning software
(Reyburn, Sanderson, Tunelab, Piano Analyzer).
f. The ability to work independently and under pressure to meet necessary deadlines.
