Supervisor- Zoning Inspections Jobs

Position Purpose

The Supervisor - Zoning Inspections oversees, directs, and supervises the activities of Development Services Department. Develops policies, procedures, ensures accuracy, and goals while working closely with the Chief Planner, contractors and developers to support projects throughout the City.

Essential Functions

• Researches zoning information, and other related items prior to meeting with city staff, developers, and contractors
• Meets with Chief Planner, Senior Planner, and District Managers keeping abreast of new materials used in construction, and changes in relevant codes and ordinances.
• Serves as a subject matter expert on related regulatory codes and permitting.
• May provide testimony during hearings and trials for prosecution of violators of applicable Dallas City Codes.
• Provides code interpretation and application, communicates regulations to contractors and developers, and ensures developmental compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Supervises, oversees and monitors development work for the department and its projects; reviews city staff work for quality and consistency in reference to City codes and ordinances.
• Performs any and all other work related to position as needed or assigned.
• Develops and identifies training material for city staff, and customers; meets and communicates with city staff to address concerns and oversights on policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

• Development code administration
• Construction plan/permit/review
• Municipal zoning
• Six (6) years of experience in one (1) of the following Inspections areas:
• Building Inspections

AND

• Two (2) years of lead, project management, or supervisory experience. (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above.)

EQUIVALENCIES:

• Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in architecture, construction management or engineering plus two (2) years of the required experience including two (2) years of lead, project management, or supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements
• Associate Degree in architecture, construction management or engineering plus four (4) years of the required experience including two (2) years of lead, project management, or supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements

LICENSE and CERTIFICATIONS:

• Zoning Inspector Certification required within one year of employment.
• TDLR Registered Code Compliance Officer required within one year of employment.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.

PREFERENCES:

• Experience with inspections related to building code standards or planning/zoning concepts preferred.
