WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER


The Philanthropy Writer will work as part of the Washington philanthropy team and, ideally, be located in the Puget Sound area – or, at a minimum, within Washington State. It is imperative that the writer live in close proximity to Washington projects sites in order to see and experience our work on a regular basis as they create accurate and inspiring content.

The position is primarily responsible for creating proposals and reports to further fundraising goals for the Washington business unit. The Philanthropy Writer will develop and maintain knowledge of Washington’s work, priorities, and fundraising opportunities. They will project manage the creation of proposals and impact reports for private individual, foundation, and corporate donors, typically in the $100,000 - $1,000,000+ range, with room to grow. They collaborate with fundraisers, conservation program, and finance staff to craft successful letters of intent, funding proposals and impact reports for the Conservancy’s work in Washington and globally.

The Philanthropy Writer project manages donor communications and maintains a comprehensive queue and reference library of proposals, reports, other donor communications and commonly used materials and budgets. They clarify team roles and track deliverables, monitoring timelines and communicating progress. They ensure efficiency and consistency in donor communications and compliance with Conservancy protocols through applying messaging and branding standards, using best practices in budget development, and securing reviews and approvals. They may work with freelance writers, graphic designers, photographers, printers and other vendors and staff, as required.

The ideal candidate should have exceptional communication and collaboration skills, and experience with fundraising practices and managing relationships. Understanding evolving trends in charitable giving is a plus. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a drive for results well-balanced with helping shape an inclusive and trust-based team culture. WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Experience building a team culture of inclusion and belonging.
  • Experience writing successful funding proposals to individual donors and foundations.
  • Experience writing or editing outcome-focused materials or technical writing. Experience with one or more of the following: annual or impact reports, donor profiles, presentations, fact sheets, campaign brochures, web-site articles/stories, newsletter, magazine or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and 5 years related experience OR equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Experience leading or coordinating multiple projects, organizing time, managing diverse activities, and meeting deadlines. Strong project management skills required. Ability to work across teams to communicate chapter and project budgets.
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Writing and editing skills spanning the spectrum of technical to science to donor audiences.
  • Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in major gift fundraising and working with institutional funders.
  • Experience presenting to diverse audiences; multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Experience manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting financial data.
  • Proficiency with document management, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience researching, analyzing, interpreting, and compiling technical information from divergent sources. Interviewing skills a plus.
  • Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.
  • Basic graphic design and layup skills appreciated.

SALARY INFORMATION


The estimated starting salary for this position is dependent on qualifications, experience, and location.
  • Salary range in Seattle, WA: $76,000 - $86,000 annually
  • Salary range in other Washington State locations: $68,000 - $80,000 annually
