The candidate should be passionate about developing new radiolabeling methods and be a creative problem solver who will participate in the delivery of research projects that will have a direct effect on business results within R&D. The position is 100% lab-based.
Responsibilities:
- The primary responsibility of the radiochemist will be to radiolabel small and large lead molecules with PET and SPECT imaging isotopes.
- It is expected that the candidate will form independent hypotheses based on data obtained from the synthesis and design and with minimal supervision, execute follow-up runs, purifications and analysis. The candidate is expected to be able to examine standard procedures and make improvements to current approaches.
- They may draft and execute peer reviewed manuscripts, tech reports and patent filings.
- The candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment and will need to establish a network with the global therapeutic areas, understand their needs and identify opportunities to support imaging studies as well as share group results. This will often require working with external partners (academic institutions, CRO’s) to support the development of novel imaging biomarkers.
- The qualified scientist is expected to be able to independently plan and execute experiments, follow protocols, document data, troubleshoot problems, interpret data and communicate results.
- The scientist will be required to proactively investigate and develop improvements to existing radiosynthetic processes and/or develop new and improved procedures. In addition, the candidate may be required synthesize precursors and standards in a chemistry lab setting on an ad hoc basis.
Qualifications
- Prior industry experience is advantageous but not required.
- The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry with 0-3 years post-doctoral experience or a minimum of 12 years of experience performing progressively advanced duties beyond a B.S. degree, or at least 3 years of experience performing progressively advanced duties at the Senior Associate Scientist level, or with the equivalent training/experience.
- Experience in radiochemistry and imaging probe development is required.
- Radiolabeling of both small and large molecule PET tracers is required.
- Familiarity with automated PET synthesis modules is required.
- Using radioisotopes such as F-18, Cu-64, Ga-68 and Zr-89 is required.
- Principles of radiation safety and health physics is required.
