Description:

Hancock Askew, a multi-office regional accounting firm with offices in Georgia and Florida, has an exciting career opportunity for the firm’s Finance team. We are searching for an energetic and passionate individual with great accounting and general skills necessary to help us expand and automate our firm’s internal finance function to serve our growing firm. The primary responsibilities for this position are daily accounts payable and accounts receivable, and bi-weekly payroll submission. This position will be placed in either the Savannah or Atlanta or Augusta office.


Duties of the role:

Payroll


  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Open state tax account for new states with new hires
  • Assist in the 401K administration, reporting, and audit
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.

Firm Bookkeeping


  • Answers vendor questions by researching accounts.
  • Prepares firm’s 1099s
  • Process routine monthly payments as approved
  • Trouble-shoots any un-verified payments, as necessary
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Posts and reconciles deposits in multiple bank accounts to our internal accounting software
  • Issues payments to vendors as approved
  • Handle business license renewals

Accounts Payable


  • Maintains all payment or other transaction records, including multiple credit card transactions
  • Reconciles or notes and reports discrepancies found in records
  • Operates computers programmed with accounting software to record, store and analyze information
  • Handle internal and vendor inquiries
  • Record, code and process all invoices for payment via Bill.com
  • Codes documents according to company procedures and internal audit controls
  • Checks figures, postings and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy and proper codes
  • Gathers purchase orders, charge slips, sales tickets and other information necessary to document payments
  • Performs timely account reconciliation by verifying entries and comparing to balances

Qualifications:


  • 3+ years of previous experience as a payroll accountant, bookkeeper or similar role
  • Proficiency in Office 365 applications including Office, Teams, Excel and Word. The demonstrated ability to perform Excel-related functions including V-Lookups, create pivot tables and manipulate data to produce reports is required.
  • Highly motivated and positive attitude
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping practices and procedures, with proficiency in QuickBooks Online or other accounting software
  • Strong knowledge of local and governmental laws about payroll
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.

  • Critical thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
