Job Description

Job summary

The Payroll Specialist provides general payroll processing support with a variety of clerical activities and related tasks. This position will be responsible for processing weekly payroll functions.

In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:

  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and the organizations.
  • Work safely, within the company guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOP) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Support the efforts of management in meeting profit and growth objectives as established in the strategic business plan.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.

Job Requirements

Summary of essential job functions

  • Calculate and process sick pay for drivers with state mandated sick days (California and Massachusetts).
  • Review and enter settlement sheets regarding additional pay that is not related to load pay in TMW
  • Overtime is likely.
  • Position includes the following duties and any other as assigned by current manager:
  • Process weekly payrolls.
  • Work with managers regarding employee pay issues.
  • Enter new Owner/Operator into payroll system and making changes to existing files as needed.
  • Calculate and process vacation pay for employees paid at anniversary date.
  • Process garnishments and child support notices as received and correctly setup required deductions.
  • Run required weekly payroll reports.
  • Review and verify the weekly hours in Time and Attendance.
  • Insert new weekly payroll deductions and modify existing deductions as needed.

Requirements

Minimum requirements

  • Self motivated and able to work with little direction while under general supervision.
  • Ability to deal effectively with people.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Must have transportation industry experience
  • 1-3 years payroll experience in transportation industry.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and TMW.
  • General knowledge of office duties.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Capable of maintaining a high level of confidentiality
