Nature Of Work
Performs paraprofessional and lead work related to payroll calculations and fiscal functions. Processes bi-weekly payroll and off cycle payroll. Provides employee, supervisor and vendor assistance with Payroll related functions and procedures. May function as a lead worker on payroll processing related projects and assignments. Work is performed under the supervision of the Payroll Manager. Examples of Duties
  • Works in a team environment coordinating with other team members in the processing of payroll.
  • Reviews and processes bi-weekly payroll in Payroll Module; including, but not limited to, terminations, retirements, reclassifications, and promotions, demotions, for approval and final determination.
  • Ensures compliance with city policies and procedures, union contracts and state and federal regulations.
  • Performs related administrative tasks; creates and updates forms as needed; conducts cross-training in other fiscal functions; provides information and assistance regarding accounting and payroll-related issues to employees, customers and the public; researches problems and initiates problem resolution; conducts research for special projects. Performs other duties as assigned. Ability to deal effectively with stress and time pressures is a requirement.
  • Monitors and maintains activity in the Time and Attendance System; ensures supervisors approve bi-weekly timesheets, reviews timesheets entries for time adjustments, answers employees and supervisor questions, transfers hours in to Payroll Module.
  • Participates in year-end processing and reconciliation of W2's and 1099R's. Performs audits of data prior and after payroll completion and follow all stablished controls.
Minimum Requirements
Associate's degree with major course work in Accounting/Business or related courses required and five (5) years of experience in processing in house payroll; or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience required. Ability to operate personal computers and experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Adobe) is required with specific knowledge in Workday and Kronos desired. Must pass police background investigation which includes polygraph. Microsoft Advanced Excel experience preferred. Supervisory or lead worker experience desired.
