Job Description

REPORTS TO:

Nurse Manager

SUMMARY STATEMENT & PURPOSE

The RN is a registered professional nurse who, provides, coordinates, and evaluates patient care through collaborative efforts with health team members in accordance with the nursing process and the standards of care and practices. The RN is accountable for the delivery of safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidenced based quality care to patients and families. The RN must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on individual: physical, emotional, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served. The RN has supervisory and delegatory responsibilities for Mental Health Technicians.

All employees are expected to be pleasant, respectful, and courteous in all interactions with patients, families, staff, and visitors of the Hospital, as well as being a positive representative of INBH at all times.

SHIFTS:

  • 2 Shifts per week required
  • 7AM TO 7:30PM or 7PM TO 7:30AM

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing required. .

· Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Washington State

· BLS, Verbal De-Escalation, and Handle with Care certification, provided by INBH

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s Degree

· Three (3) years’ experience as a registered nurse in a psychiatric health care facility preferred.

EMPLOYEE RATES AND BENEFIT

· Wage Range is $38 to $57 depending on work related experience.

· In addition to base hourly rate, employees receive shift differentials ranging from $2.00 to $8.00 per hour

· Eight-Four hours paid time off per year to include 6 major holidays.

SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

All functions are essential functions unless otherwise noted.

The job functions of this position are not limited to the duties listed below.

1. Following nursing standards/procedures/protocols/treatment orders, the RN cares for patients

2. Completes initial nursing admission assessment by demonstrating the nursing process and by transferring the information to the initial treatment plan.

3. Ensures Provision of Safety & Comfort of all patients

4. Document and reassess any significant changes in the patient's condition in compliance with facility’s policy.

5. Assess the milieu and coordinates / updates the charge nurse / house supervisor to plan milieu management.

6. Shall ensure that patients requiring seclusion and/or restraint are monitored, assessed, evaluated and humanely treated using least restrictive measures and that appropriate documentation of same occurs per facility policy and as governed by law.

7. Monitor interactions between staff and patients/families; intervenes and mediates immediately if necessary and is appropriate.

8. Medications administered safely and accurately: documentation is accurate and timely.

9. Monitor unit activity and encourage patient participation.

10. Provide, delegate, and coordinate nursing care to patients during hospitalization.

11. Recognize and treat all patients and guests as customers and all staff as internal customers to actively support a culture of teamwork.

12. Prioritizes own RN responsibilities independently or with supervision based on patient care needs, unit milieu, and number and classification of assigned staff available to provide care.

PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS, WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS:

· Ability to sit and stand (one-third of the shift) and walk (two-thirds of the shift).

· Ability to safely escort patients using stairs and elevators on a daily basis.

· Ability to reach above, at or below waist height, kneel, bend, stoop, turn, twist, and throw.

· Ability to see well enough to read charts, treatment plans and typewritten materials.

· Ability to hear well enough to detect noises on the unit and have the ability to discern odors.

· Ability to frequently lift and carry 10 lbs.; occasionally 20-50 lbs.

· Ability to frequently push/pull wheeled carts from 100-200 lbs.

· Ability to manipulate small and large tools (e.g. electric thermometer, telephone, wheelchair, blood pressure cuffs, walkers, paper punch, restraints, staplers, copy machine, etc.)

· Ability to work inside and outside in varying temperatures and conditions.

· Ability to frequently handle hazardous/infectious waste.

· Ability to work in an environment where chemicals are frequently used for cleaning, where mechanical and electrical hazards may occasionally be present and where dust, mist and steam are frequently generated in housekeeping tasks.

· Ability to work at a rapid pace and perform a variety of repetitive duties.

· Ability to respond to exposure to blood and body fluids.
