Summary of Job Duties:
Duties include but are not limited to assisting the Head Cheer Coach with practices, performances and games. Will assist with team selection, assigns events to students, organizes camps and training programs, and orders/maintains equipment. Must have flexible hours:

  • Completes other assigned administrative duties in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates music composition, choreography and routine construction.
  • Be available for ALL practices and special events;
  • Provide leadership, direction and coaching for the Cheer Team Program;
  • Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the department, the University, NDA and AACC with the utmost integrity.
  • Actively support the academic integrity of the university, keeping academics and achievement of a degree as the highest priority for the students;
  • Works cooperatively with personnel in the Athletics department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni, other higher education institutions, high school and, media and general public.
  • Assists with marketing and promoting the cheer program.
  • Effectively assist with recruiting the best students within the admissions, financial and regulatory constraints established by the university;
  • Be knowledgeable of and steadfastly use current accepted safety practices and procedures for all Cheer activities and maintain a safe and healthy environment for the students;
  • Be responsible to assist all Cheer Team appearances and activities;
  • Be aware and abide by the rules of confidentiality
  • Must attend all Football Games home and away and men’s and women’s basketball home games and travel with the team to SWAC Tournament games as required providing coordination, coaching, support and encouragement;
  • Reports directly to the Head Cheer Coach and Director of Spirit Programs.
  • Provide appropriate and necessary guidance, advising, and counseling for the squad members;

Qualifications:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of coed cheer and All-Girl Cheer experience as a performer/cheer instructor in a high school, collegiate or professional athletics environment is also required. Must have experience with cheer techniques and a diverse knowledge of safety and security standards. The ability to work a non-standard work week which may include early morning practices, evenings, and weekends are mandatory. General computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel) and data entry skills, good organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Experience coaching cheer teams at a collegiate or all-star program. Experience as a cheer team member at a collegiate program. Experience choreographing routines and effectively teaching team and individual skills in tumbling and stunting. Current cheer safety certification.
