Posting Summary:
The Hollingworth Preschool at Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking a Part Time Assistant Preschool Teacher to join our on campus preschool team. The incumbent will demonstrate a desire to learn pedagogical methodology in the early childhood classroom, the cross domain development of very young children, and the support of a play based curriculum. The Part Time Assistant Preschool Teacher will work under the direction of the preschool director and collaboratively with the preschool staff. The incumbent will work 20 - 27 hours per week. Position includes a salary of 20 per hour and some tuition exemption.
Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Assistant Preschool Teacher will work under the direction of the center director and preschool director and collaboratively with the preschool staff to provide high-quality preschool education for young children and their families.
Teaching and Curriculum Design
- Document and display children's work virtually and on campus
- Individualize the curriculum and learning experiences to ensure the development of each child's potential
- Participate and support the design, develop, and integrate child led and interdisciplinary curriculum
- Support the creation of and maintaining an inclusive, caring, respectful, positive classroom community on campus and virtually as needed for children
Parent Education
- Participate in parent/teacher conferences with parents throughout the year
- Attend meetings and talks for parents
- Participate in special events for children, parents, and members of the community
Professional Learning
- Attend and participate in professional learning sessions
- Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings, planning meetings, and curriculum designing meetings\
Child Development
- Participate in the analysis of each child's development and learn appropriate responses to ensure each child reaches full potential
- Observe and document each child's development
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must abide by all Covid safety mitigation in the classroom
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting
- Ability to comply with the Teachers College Minors on Campus Policies as well as New York City Bureau of Child Care requirements including all mandatory trainings
- At least year of experience with young children in a formal or informal setting or as a caregiver in a home
- Must be available to begin immediately.
- Ability to attend to all responsibilities with respect, initiative, attention to detail, organization, and independent follow through
- Must commit through June 16, 2023
- As required by the Department of Education, must have flu vaccine
- MA in progress in early childhood, child development, or a related area
- Availability to work 20 - 27 hours per week between 8:15 - 3:15. Schedule to be determined
- Ability to adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism
- Must have Covid vaccine and booster
Preferred Qualifications:
Teachers College Graduate Student Able to continue through the 2023 - 2024 school year
Salary Range:
20/hr - 20/hr
