Job Description

The City of Wentzville is seeking students interested in joining our Parks and Recreation team. Wentzville is one of the fastest-growing communities in the state. Come grow with us!

The Parks Planning and Project Management Internship will assist with planning and designing projects related to the parks and other public properties around the city. This internship will also include providing project support for the planning, designing and construction of parks capital development projects; Providing support in the development and review of construction documents and project specifications; Providing project administration support to ensure compliance with construction documents and project specifications.

Job Qualifications – Education, experience and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA or above; minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Students must be enrolled in a degree program - preference given to students who have completed at a minimum, three years at an accredited university with a focus on project management, landscape architecture, park planning, or related field from accredited program.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Lumion, Sketchup and/ or LandFX Software is desired.
  • Candidates must reside in the St. Louis, MO metro area as this is an in-person role. Interns are responsible for their own living arrangements.

  • Must have great analytical skills, strong problem-solving abilities using creativity and innovation.

  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills and take initiative to identify additional work not assigned that enhances the effort with logical next steps.
  • Must have a strong functional knowledge of horticulture and construction materials.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must have a passion for developing and deploying project best practices, policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interface with staff and project leaders.
  • Must excel in a fast-paced, quickly changing, team-based work environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative planning and working relationships with other public and volunteer community agencies.
  • Must have the knowledge and ability to ask good questions and listen to decision makers.
