Basic Purpose
Responsibilities
- Maintains and tracks case calendar/schedule to ensure critical deadlines are met
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Provides input and makes budgetary recommendations regarding staffing and equipment
- Supervises, guides and mentors division legal/administrative staff to ensure coordination and consistent application of policies and procedures
- Ensures maintenance of the General Counsel legal library/database, including the electronic document management system
- Proofreads and maintains legal documents
- Ensures coordinated administrative support for the division
- Drafts routine legal documents and reports under attorney supervision
- Recommends and implements technical/electronic enhancements to improve administrative operations
- Prepares written summaries and analyses and generates case status reports.
- Serves as liaison with court officials and other relevant external contacts
- Receives, analyzes, compiles and organizes legal documents to ensure efficient document flow
- Informs attorneys of applicable and specific legal matters, and the impact on the organization
- Performs extensive legal research and analysis of precedent cases, judicial decisions and opinions, and legislative developments
- Researches legal issues and tracks litigation
- Participates in employee selection, prepares and conducts performance appraisals, trains and develops employees
- Drafts business communication and correspondence, reports, or other written materials
- Summarizes depositions and other related legal proceedings; conducts investigations and statistical/documentary research
- Creates, prepares and maintains legal documents and case files for attorney approval and use
Qualifications
- Strong PC skills including database, word processing, and spreadsheet applications
- Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain confidential information
- Demonstrated ability to lead others and work independently, or previous experience in office management
- Demonstrated knowledge of legal reference sources including Lexis/Nexis and/or other commonly used legal research procedures and methods sufficient to locate and analyze pertinent statutes, court decisions, legal opinions, and other legal documents
- Strong written communication skills, including proofreading and editing accuracy
- Knowledge concerning document control and document security measures at the institutional level
- Strong research and analytical skills, and experience that demonstrates effective organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Experience in progressively responsible administrative/clerical positions which demonstrates knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, and government regulations
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Navy Federal’s objectives, functions, and policies
- Familiarity with Department of Defense organizational structure and policies
- Bachelor’s Degree in English or a related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of legal concepts and methodologies and their application in a financial environment
- Paralegal certification highly desired
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
Location: 141 Security Dr. Winchester, VA 22602
Navy Federal is now hybrid! Our standard enterprise requirement for a hybrid schedule is to report on-site 4-16 days each month. The number of days reporting on-site will ultimately be determined by the employee's leadership and business unit needs. You will learn more throughout the hiring and on boarding process.
Salary Range: $34.50 - $44.00 hourly
Navy Federal Credit Union assesses market data to establish salary ranges that enable us to remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range, based on your experience, location and market position.
